Brightside Bonsai Pots

Really working to get that copper patina effect in a natural looking way.

And here is one inspired by a cappuccino with cinnamon lol

This is like prospectors gold and rust with the texture to go with it.

What do you think about this pot and how the feet work? I love orangish red glazes and had to try this new one I made on this pot. Little warpage to give it character.

Very nice. I can see the cinnamon! :)

In regards to the last pictured pot... (my two cents. Everyone has their own preferences)

Due to the positioning and thinness of the feet, it gives the impression of it being unstable which could be a good thing for a paired tree.

I think a thicker foot (probably about 1/3rd bigger) with a thin column or tapering to a thin/fine top would look good. Maybe have the pot about 1/3rd thinner and the air gap from the feet about half as big would definitely put it closer into my personal preference.

I really like the color of that glaze, but (at least as pictured) the application seems a little heavy for me. First casual glance of it leaves the impression of one color without variance unlike the other pots pictured. Basically, to me it seems "a few cents short" of a uniform mass production style glaze. Just not my cup of tea, as I prefer a little more varience in how it looks like the cappuccino and prospector's gold pots.

Additionally, I think that leaving the feet/columns unglazed would give it a good separation in the glaze.

This does make me wonder what a lotus/petal style pot would look like with column styled feet would look like. Maybe with an exaggerated lip out to the ends of the tops of the columns.

@Kievnstavick I appreciate the feedback! I agree with you. The glaze does turn a cream color with the orange when applied thicker. I was a little concerned since it was a new glaze I made and hadn’t used on a pot that it may run and stick to the shelf.

I do think that it’s somewhat unstable look could pair great with the right tree. I was going for a delicate look but I think the next ones I do in the same fashion I will use thicker feet. I think the style of feet has some potential and am going to continue the experiments.

Here is one I did I think it has good flow. Very delicate look as well. How the glaze breaks on the edges really ties everything together.

Looking great! what is the dimension of this one?

You're always welcome. You can't really improve on your designs if there isn't someone to provide some feedback about the product.

I agree that it conveys a delicate look. I think the straightness of the legs really aid in the design especially with the glaze breaks to help separate the feature from the background. I definitely prefer this one.

Thinking about it, the curviness of the previous legs might look better for a "squatting" style of pot rather then a tall one.

I like that concept of using that style of feet on a shallow, squatting looking pot.

I appreciate the ideas! I have a lot of other interesting pieces coming. As well as glazes. I made like 60 new glazes. Took a while lol.

I started practicing bonsai in 2018. I wanted this post to share a little of my background and starting this ceramic endeavor. I started Brightside Bonsai January 1st 2023.

My name Brightside Bonsai is a manifestation I have with my vessel’s giving the bonsai a home as the sun shines down on them. It’s a vision that my name represents. To me this is larger than me and feels good.

It is very inspirational to create work for others to use in their creative endeavors with bonsai. I have many idea’s still to create. As far as I’m concerned Brightside hasn’t even started making vessels. As my feel for the clay material is starting to register with my past as a metal sculptor.

I really thought my fellow bonsai practitioners and professionals would appreciate a couple of the sculptures I created in the past.

This is called “The Vessel.” It is a gnarly battered tree that hosts life within it living as a vessel. I also forged a blood vessel that is at the base of the tree. It’s the connection of life.

This is called “within the blink of an eye.” It encompasses the beauty in a forest as you look up at the night sky. The top and bottom is cut out but has a pumpkin vine creeping up the wall and the roots creeping down the wall. It’s like 4ft. There’s well over 10,000 hammer strikes in this piece.

The two railings were inspired by whimsical and botanical life. Plus the dragonfly in the first garden rail.
