'Kozan'
Finally another 'Kozan' cutting that does well. I struggle growing 'Kozan'. I think one reason is the very dry summers.
I had more cuttings, but they died, including one of the original plants.
One cutting had chlorosis for 2 or 3 years, always struggling. Then it finally made it through that when I replanted it in the garden. It had 2 good years there. But this spring, it woke up too early, got hit by frost. And now I think it had some drought stress as well on top of that, even though there has been watering. That one may be dying.
I have another cutting that died back almost completely up to the base. But the base has been alive for a while but never growing a lot.
But this new cutting seems to do well. That said, if you notice, you see a dead branch at the base of this one as well, so it had a struggle in the past as well.
But for the Japanese, it apparently is one of the toughest azaleas they prefer for ancient bonsai. Makes me wonder...
