I’m going to my work Christmas party tonight. Rumor has it there might be an open bar there , and if that’s the case, I will undoubtedly be significantly fortified enough to watch the video when I get home

I hope you plan on getting good and sloshed. I don't know that the juniper will survive what is probably a 90ish percent reduction in foliage. I actually think the tree will be just fine. Might not be the optimal way to do the first styling but he has his own way.

I think the tree survives. Does it look good? Objectively no. Like a big fat no. Does it suck that new bonsai hobbyists watch his videos for his advice. An emphatic yes.

On the other hand, he did say he didn't want the foliage to hide the trunk, so maybe he just wanted the tree to have no foliage.

I just had an image Heirloom taking a roofing nail gun and applying a long sapling to that trunk pop into my head. Followed by near full defoliation.
