A Couple Of New Pots

FWIW, I agree with John on the glazes. Nice work all around though. Also, I have found over the years that I have absolutely no use for round pots (and I don't know many who have been doing this for long that have more than a couple-and those are most likely in storage). They are not easy to use with bonsai. Ovals, rectangles and variations of those are most useable and buyable for me.

I love round pots:)....especially large ones! I'm tending more and more toward oval and round pots for many of my trees! I cannot remember the last rectangle I purchased but my collection is lacking in pines and native junipers that would call for more formal pots. Just personal taste:)

Thanks for your replies and constructive criticisms, they are duly noted and appreciated. When I started about a year ago, I thought that matte glazes would be all that I would do. And I do a lot of matte or satin finishes, but I try to listen to the pot and to my own intuition in choosing. When I awake from a dead sleep and a glaze combo is at the forefront of my mind for a specific pot I feel I would be wrong to ignore it. Also, in defense of the last pots pictured, the best thing that comes across in my terrible iPhone photos is the gloss and glare. To hold the pots in your hand is a whole other thing entirely. I feel very certain that once the "new car smell" is gone and the pots have hopefully hosted a tree and all of its watering and feeding that these pots will age very well. And John G, I know in my heart of hearts that one of your AMAZING Chinzans would be a great compliment to that green pot:). Back to the studio today, maybe I'll make a large, round matte glazed pot:p... Cheers all, thanks again.

A little something for all of our senses... A satin glaze with flashes of gloss. This one's a winner!

Very interesting glazes on your work. As you said they probably look even better in person. The shape is nice but I get a little cautious of pots with an 'inverse taper'. Probably unduly cautious. I feel that rootbound trees could be hard to remove. Anyway just a thought to ponder. Nice work.

Thanks guys. Here's more of the "whole pot", it's appx. 8 x 7 x 2". Bunjeh, I'm trying to figure out the best way to sell a few pots, they're stacking up! It may be a bit premature to try to fill the needs of a commission at this time. But, what have you got in mind?:p

Fantastic Work.
You get to selling. I'll get to buying.
Don't know how or when, but I want one!

Here's a few more... I'm cycling thru pretty good right now.

I agree if you start posting these for sale I would be in the market for a couple.
Please post a link if you do sell some or pm me.
I like the large drainage holes and the colors are perfect.
I enjoy the glazes. I'm partial to olive coloring and tans and greys.
This is fantastic. Thanks for sharing the detail on how to make ovals.

Thanks guys. While we are here, a couple came out of the gas kiln today.

I'm proud to say that a few of my pots, including a few pictured in this thread, are now available for purchase at Bonsai West in Boston, MA. It's a small, simple beginning, but, it's a beginning...

I just went to their website and while they do have some trees listed they don't show the pots for sale.
Individual pictures are necessary for online sales.
I'm not trying to be a downer but you have skill. Why don't you just open your own website? No one can market your pots better than you can.
It's nice for the folks that live in that area and can see the pots in real life.
I will wait patiently.

I've been away working my 'real job', and came back to the studio today with lots to glaze and 2 out of the kilns. First is an unglazed, textured oval, 13 x 9 x 3". It was fired in the gas kiln to cone 6. 2nd is a bag shaped oval, probably my favorite shape to make, in a cream variation, leaning to grey. It measures 12 x 8 x 2" and was fired in the electric kiln. Thanks for looking.
