You can see a couple of examples of the embedded wire technique. I only did this on 3 trees, 2 of which are still alive (the really monstrous looking one is a fusion of 3 seedlings, the other one is just a single tree with embedded wire). I can see why growers do it -- while it is a very artificial look, it's a bit of a shortcut to adding character to these very young trees. I suspect these will be among my 6 year finalists even if they aren't the best trees in a decade or so.
