I vote 3... if executed with passion.. the payout will (seemingly) be tree-mendous..

I’ve been ocularly enjoying “Low-branch” structures such as this, lately..

🤓

One of these days I will do a workshop or take classes with a Pro. But time and and geographic location do not lend itself to that as of yet. So I’ll just rely on the NutHouse in the meantime!!

Todd Schlafer does workshops in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society up here in Denver a couple times per year. Great experience and perhaps wouldn’t be too far for you :)

I voted for #1 but #3 was a close second. It reminds me of an “old school” type design with an almost C-shaped trunk and the foliage moving to the left.

Hey TJ. Yeah hes come to our local club a few times, but it seems every time he has, my weekend obligations are too much. 3 kids and a wife in grad school complicates things. Buuuuuttt, she graduates next September after 7 years in school, and my availability to pursue my hobby more extensively will open up. Can’t wait for that.

thanks for the vote on the tree. It’s not a spectacular tree, but it’ll be fun to play with. Not entirely sure what I’ll do till next spring.

What height is it above the soil and do you have an idea of the initial styled height?
Foliage may always be a bit leggy
This has probably already crossed your mind, to play into the height.
Do you have an inspiration picture...in your head maybe, perhaps a sketch?
eh, you've got all Winter...:)

@Japonicus 15” or so. And yeah I had started A drawing and finished it up this morning. Here was my initial idea. Foliage will probably not be as tight as depicted in the drawing. Buttttt. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Is it too late to change my vote?😄
That sketch keeping foliage on the right side of the trunk changes my mind about balance.

Change noted. 😉

the balancing branch on the right I feel is fully necessary. Also, if I want to go as tall as I said, I feel the lower foliage will keep your eye from making the tree appear taller.

Edit - decided to wrap and wire up the “secondary trunk into its position. Did the work last week and was happy with how much I was able to bend it up. Now I wait till next year.

One stept at the time brings you to the finish line!

I am not sure. How do pfitzeriana's work? Can you get the foliage compact enough to create a good image? Or are you thinking about grafting?

Nice. I voted, realised it was old news, but that my choice won and you’ve started making steps. I’ve got a bit of a thing for twin trunks at the moment so I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I think your drawing and the size of the child trunk will fill the negative space below the Jin really nicely.

Just participating in the democratic process is all I could ask for Woocash!

I can’t say for sure. Much of the growth was shaded out for so long. At the tips it seems mildly compact, but the shaded out stuff is much to leggy to work. I think when I do a heavier foliage trim next year and allow new tips to push, ill have a better idea.
