@Adair M - congrats on acquiring this magnificent Zelkova. It is in good hands. This tree deserves its own thread, not buried in a 6 year old "dead thread".
Many have already stated what I feel, it is vital to have skilled bonsai artists curating collections of mature, exhibition level trees, understanding that such a tree might only be "show ready" one or two years out of five. There is a constant cycle of refine, display, then renewal.
I don't own any exhibition trees, because my skill set and lifestyle (frequent 3 to 5 day trips away from home) make caring for an exhibition level tree very difficult. I would love to own some, but it would be irresponsible of me to buy one until I am able to stop travelling or can afford to hire caretakers.
