winter tree presentation 2019

Yesterday was the first bonsai event in the Netherlands!
the event was located at Deshima bonsai studio and organized by a group volluntairs that also use the location for there monthly bonsai cafe meetings where one can work their trees and share our passionate hobby!

it was all about wishing each other a good new year and as well to show the tree's we are working on !
so not really a show with only high quality tree's and tree's that are way into the refinement stage but for anyone who wanted to show how they are doing bonsai on their level and also no strict rules on how to display either traditional or something original !
still i must say the tree's were not all that bad tough most tree's have great potention if you ask me !

@leatherback and @Tentakelaertje were also present, great to see you both again!

Yeah, it was good! Well worth the 2 1/2 drive back and forth. Very good atmosphere too. Met some new people. Avoided some of the old , nah not really.
Was a little tired when I got home though.
Next year I shall bring some trees for display too.

I like the use of informal materials and modern art added to the displays. That's a very Dutch thing to do.
Good to see that exhibitions are being organized a little closer to home!

the ulmus tree's on the white boxes are all grown out of mallsai stock very impressive so if anyone still says its hopeless heres the example

I keep looking at your excellent deadwood on the Yew. And I am getting to wonder.. Would it not be much better to reduce the hollowed out trunk? Now it breaks the flow of the trunk. Reducing it will create a more elegant transition into the new main trunk..

Some very good quality trees being shown. I too like some of the unique displays. I wish they were spared out a bit more, but that’s pretty impressive for your first show! I like some of the expressiveness of the individual trees stylings.

@defra - I think you need to keep the deadwood on your yew, it provides the movement, it sets the ''first principal movement'', where you need to change it is the upper part of the tree is too static, the upper part should either move back to the left, against the primary movement, to create tension, or move right with the movement set by the hollowed out deadwood, to give the piece an over balanced to the right movement to create ''tension''. You deadwood is very natural looking, your only unique feature, and should be kept. Use it to guide the rest of the tree.

From a photo, or even many photos, I would never be able to say which is best, go more right or go more left. But in 3 D you should be able to see it.

I love the informality of the displays. It is fun seeing a number of mature, fully developed trees, and a number of trees in early phases of development, trees that the two clubs nearest me would not allow, as they are still too raw. It is a nice mix.

It was an open exhibition @GGB, the trees are from all over the country. The organizing club did a great job anyway, this year it was even better than previous years!

Really enjoyed the wide range of trees shown. Some great specimens in the mix...loved the creative ways of displaying as well. Thanks for sharing these with us.

That's a neat idea for a show and some really interesting trees. That larch with the multitude of cones caught my eye, as did the forsythia. I'm still trying to make sense of the
"bolt forest" especially the meaning of the single real tree.

There was a couple of dozen, I think around 50 trees in total or so. Quite a few indeed, previous years there were way less it seemed.
