What are the best stores to buy pre-bonsai from? I'd love all species, but specifically Japanese maple. I can't seem to find any at my local nurseries and many I see online can be hundreds of euro.

So what are the main stores to buy from?

What are the best quality?

What is the cheapest?

etc.

Just wanna be able to buy species I like that are grown with bonsai in mind. I don't mind young trees either.

Any help would be awesome.

Dificult. I find most stores have gotten quite expensive. Bonsai Plaza is a quality store. More affordable trees can be had from bonsai.de.
Naturally, you can pop me a pvt message if you are after specific things; I might have some maples laying about that I do nto intent to develop.

I double quote Leatherback on Bonsaiplaza.
If you're into more affordable starting material, I got mine by Guy Maillot (France), but it is quite a shot in the dark cause you don't get to see what your seedlings/young grafted material looks like.

Others are: Laosgarden, Bonsai SturmBonsai Fuchs, Pagineverdibonsai.
Imho there's a few reliable Bonsai Auctions on FB, as well.

I have two JM Deshojo prebonsais for sale but if you're looking for cheap Japanese maples, then other cultivars are cheaper.
Which country are you in?

@BobbyLane im up north mate but OP is Northern Europe

nowadays I mostly buy trees from club members tbh but I was jealous of EU pricing on some trees over the years such as trident

N Europe can be any of a number of countries.
Should be plenty of bits up North, you guys generally have more open space and larger gardens, it makes a difference to what local stores will stock. I cant usually find hedging material within 3 miles here but if I go a bit further out the demand is higher.

This looks like a decent maple to practice on, looks to have some taper, plenty of branches, tall, looks healthy, some flare at the base, no ugly grafts, fair price?
looking at about £120 in the garden centres here for one this size.

I'll be surprised if its still there tomorrow.

Whos's serious?

In the EU you have to pay VAT on everything you buy from outside the EU, the VAT is around 20-25% depending on the local country in the EU.
And because the UK left the EU (Brexit) you also have to deal with import rules when buying plants and/or tree from outside the EU.

You can better buy from within the EU if you live in an EU country.

I really appreciate everyone's help and recommendations, as for where I am located I'm in a very rural area in a Nordic nation. To the best of my knowledge there are no clubs/nurseries anywhere close so I assume I will have to ship some from other European nations.

Also thank you for the offer of being able to reach out, I will definitely do so if I can't find anything.

@leatherback , do you still have some maples?
I tried to send you a pm here but I keep getting an error message.
Maybe you can send me a pm? I'm looking for some specific things.
Thanks a lot.
