Don’t think so… I rotate biogold with plantone and use fish emulsion. May ask why?Incredible tree, good thing you one. Does the organic you use have bacillus?
The Plant Tone fertilizer does have three strains of Bacillus organisms in the formulae.Incredible tree, good thing you one. Does the organic you use have bacillus?
just asking about your success so I can change my stuff, lol.Don’t think so… I rotate biogold with plantone and use fish emulsion. May ask why?
Yes, I wonder about that pro-mix bx which only contains one of the bacteria, to see if there is a difference (first in annuals garden where it would be easy to tell)The Plant Tone fertilizer does have three strains of Bacillus organisms in the formulae.
I’ll assume all ilex can be chopped hard and will build branches and pads fairly easily. I think the key is finding a good trunk and building from that.Amazing tree... Love the work put into it.
Should crenata act similarly? Collecting one in a couple weeks.
Also, now I know what to do with all these dam beer cans.
My color wheel says otherwise .Really nice. Should look good with the pink shorts as well.
Well yeah, just figured you'd wear them anyway......My color wheel says otherwise .
I treat it like all my other temperate trees in that it gets exposed to frosts and light freezes in October and early November. At that point, it gets moved into my cold room with my nice shohins and maples where it stays until the following March. By December, the temperature is in the 30's F and usually stays that way.Dave, this tree would be awesome no matter the growing location, but that you’re growing it up in Michigan is mind-boggling! I’ve tried and failed with a few of these “borderline” species that are not tropical but also not fully hardy to the native climate. Much more difficult than you make it look, Super impressive work!
That trunk…
I suppose any tree could be killed by a sudden, hard freeze, but I. crenata is supposedly cold hardier than I. vomitoria. Anyway, this one keeps chugging along though it doesn't push as hard now as it did for the first few years I had it. I suspect that's both related to generally cooler weather with a shorter growing season, and a fuller, more compact canopy.Very nice
Maybe yaupon does better.
I killed my ilex crenata because of a freak freeze
