What the hell happened to this tree?

Here's the guy who took care of my chipmunk problem --at least for a while, til the rodent was replaced...I'd bet your raptor friend will do the same for you. He's obviously on to something or he wouldn't risk sitting on your furniture. šŸ˜
I saw a 4ft bull snake in my backyard maybe 1 month ago. Need to get his/her ass back out here!

I have had similar problems this year, never before.
I have always had rodents around. There has always been racoons.
I never seen rabbits in the neighborhood before, but noticed a bunny this year.

Kilw the wabbit!
I remember the rabbits in NM being the size of German Shepherds šŸ˜³

In

like that thought but weā€™ve got Tiny mice and very few to no squirrels. Maybe a pack rat. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø
Mice do shit like this too. They're after the cambium. They're strip off the bark and chew the green underneath.

Really though. Do you have a suggestion on remedy? Not a single other tree was touched and Iā€™d LOVE to keep it that way. Some traps on the benches maybe?

If you have snakes and hawks in your backyard, you have rodents. They're not there for nothing.
And I always have had snakes and hawks in my yards all over Abq, but this is the first time a rodent has messed with my trees. Bastards!

Snap traps are probably your best bet, get the rat sized ones. Peanut butter works good for bait. Iā€™d say poison them as itā€™s usually really effective but you have some other cool animals out there that you probably wouldnā€™t want to harm accidentally. Birds can take a poisoned animal and end up poisoned themselves.

Yeah and I donā€™t want to hurt my dogs either. Iā€™ll probs put some traps out tonight.

If you're going to trap them, please don't use rat traps. You're just as likely to kill or injure other local wildlife than what you're after. I've lived in the southwest. There are A LOT of animals there who are active at night, snakes, owls, lizards, etc. that can all be attracted to those large traps and bait, that can seriously injure or kill them.

Safe snap traps work. I've used them.

Any interest in getting a cat? We donā€™t have one, but the neighbor does. His name is Sylvester and he patrols our back yard. Have only seen one mouse in 3 yearsā€¦.and havenā€™t seen it again!

Something decided that those branches need a better taper?

Haha. I see what you did there Namnhi. Indeed they do, and hopefully the tree/s will be better off for this ā€œtrimā€.

Also. Thank you all for helping me confirm I didnā€™t trim my tree in my sleep. šŸ˜‚

Sleep walking can be a problem, of course consult your physician, but drugs like Topiramate can help prevent sleep walking. I have a problem with sleep walking. Sometimes I type on BNut in my sleep.
