Worked this englemann. when I got it, it had a small trunk coming from the base which died within the first year with me. It sat as I was disappointed and it wasn’t in super health.

It was repotted at one point and I still hated it so I tried to sell it. Couldnt get anybody with $75 to come pick it up. I figure the pot was with at least 30-40! so today I wired it out and figure if it lives it can stay on my bench a little while longer.

Went to an old friend's farm near Annapolis, MD, for some yamadori harvesting. We've know each other for 20+ years but this is my first time there.
In addition to 5 beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) and 2 multi-trunk hornbeam (Carpinus), he had potted a tiny bald cypress and a Buxus rotundafolia.

Then while walking in his huge yard we saw 2 yardadori: Buxus "Morris dwarf" which were planted too shallow 20 years ago and are now begging to be root-over-rock! Here's one of those; more pics tomorrow.

A couple of months ago, I pulled a cheap, chipped, blue pot at the tail end of a club raffle. It was ugly, old, full of hard water stains and chips along the rim and the base, but I liked the general shape of the pot, so I patched it up with some plasticine and cast a plaster mold of it. I'm now starting to pull fresh pots from the mold. This is the first one, formed, dried to leather-hard, trimmed and cleaned. Ready to be bisqued.

Began filling up my grow bed for winter with all the free trees I got over the weekend. Some yamadori (beech and hornbeam), some yardadori (dwarf Boxwood and a tiny BC),some cultivated 5-6 year old seedlings (Princess Persimmon and crabapple).

Maybe just enough room for 2 yamadori Table Mountain pines from last March and 12 potted JBP and JRP seedlings in 4" pots.

Today I recived my new black backdrop (wich I'm loving), and made this pic of a leptospermum scoparium (NZ tea tree) I'm slowly pruning , cleaning and wiring (it's the fourth I buy from this nurserie batch).

My first one died after hacking the roots into a shallow pot.
I'm going to try seedlings in shallows and your post reminded me I had a packet.

Set up my humidity trays for the winter projects under the big LED grow light. The small cypresses are going to be a small forest planting and the larger to be a stand alone. My BRT gets center stage with the P. Afra to left and the newly acquired pot of P. Afra "kaleidoscope" in front. Then there's a Mimosa pudica mixed in with my partners succulents. Tomorrow I'll post my outdoor trees when I water them in the morning.

Got my auto vent opener installed on my cheap-o greenhouse AFTER we set a record temp of 82°F in Milwaukee today. I'll need to reinforce the cross-bar somehow because it twists just enough that the cylinder hits the poly sheet and won't close all the way. I only dropped my screwdriver out of the greenhouse twice.

Watered the balcony tree's this morning, also found a bunch of mealy bugs on that new P. Afra I picked up the other day so gave that a good high pressure wash of all the branches and leaves to blast away all signs of them. I'll have to keep an eye on it for signs of any stragglers.

I tucked a lot of things in their semi-winter home today. We have a bunch of 20° nights in our forecast coming. I got to make a quick dash South so I won't be here to take care of them or feel the 20s. Have to winterize the boat haha on i-75 south.
I'll be back soon enough to feel the pain of winter.IMG_20231025_125915762_HDR.jpgIMG_20231025_124702497.jpgIMG_20231025_124629733.jpg

Pulled this mediocre pot out of the kiln. But I'm excited about it, because I've found a cone 6 glaze that I think I'm going to love. The round slip cast pot I posted a few days ago is ready to fire, and when it comes out, I'm giving it this glaze, which I think will look great on it.
