Prettiest shade of blue...
Non sequitur.
Just wanted to share.

A Robin built a nest in my girlfriend's plant hanging literally 2 ft from our front door...she flies off every time we open the door. Last year we had 3 different sets of birds nest in plants on our front porch, all of which would startle and fly off at least 20 times a day...

This 6 feet tall Camellia (amongst all the other plants) had to be evicted from my front garden to allow some emergency ground works. I knew this day would come and 2 months ago I chopped it down to see if it could survive and today I dig it out.
The trunk above soil was around 2.5 inches. Digging it out I checked the root flair and it almost dobles it.
I preserved the roots as much as I could and slip-potted it in a oversized pond basket (the only thing I had available).
Now I will let it be and plan when the time is right the repotting and another trunk chop.

Treating wounds and preparing for future cuts on a recently acquired azalea. It had previously had large stumps under the canopy that I removed. All cuts over the size of a dime were double sealed, first with TopJin M then with putty.

I also cleaned up most of the moss from the base, revealing a very interesting nebari/tekagari.

I did a Jennifer Price shimpaku workshop today. Did not get a great after photo but she wanted us to just set the main structure of the branches and not take too much off.

When I finally got home I ruminated on which trees I should bring to the workshop in the morning and removed wire from a few of the potential trees so I can re-wire them tomorrow.

IMG_3996.jpegToday I tilled this area of my parents’ yard as a preemptive Father’s Day gift for pops. His body is worn down and all he thinks about are the Mets and the bodacious vegetable garden he wants to have. Mid June… better late than never, I suppose.

Then I got a late night itch and set up an air layer on a Styrax Japonica in the same yard. Not sure how gravitropism will screw with me on this. Hopefully gets to a point where I will find out :p

I vote to end this thread .. people pos there more than their own project threads anymore . This site is dead mostly due to this thread
Disagree

This thread allows people to show something they are working on that might not have enough work or progress for a progression thread yet.

I've been unhappy with this trident for a while. The base has a bulge from past branches used to develop it creating a huge reverse taper that I've tried to correct by growing out branches to make the trunk below it bigger. Never worked so I finally decided to air layer off the top of the tree that would make a nice shohin or slightly bigger than shohin. It is growing really strong this year so its time. Hopefully it works.

Thats cool, we dont see much air layered Tridents. If its successful, pls do a thread on it, maybe others can learn from it.

This Oak I picked up recently, has developed Oak canker, virtually untreatable. Ive thrown it out
