Repotted (6) Japanese Red Pines from 4" terra cotta pots to 6" pond baskets. These babies were planted from seed in January '23 and had all completely filled the 4" pots with very healthy roots. Old medium was pumice and coco coir; new medium added 1/4" sieved pine fines to that mix.
These have been wired since last summer, and rewired today--- happily with no breaking given their fragile reputation!

Also, repotted (4) Japanese Black Pines. Same as the JRP above: 4" terra cotta to 6" pond baskets. Along started from seed in January '23. Great root systems and, again pumice/ coco coir to same mix + pine fines.

Did some initial styling and a very gentle root prune/repot on this juniper davurica. This is my third one so i decided to be bold with styling and pruning on this one. I notice they have get nice thick trunks in small pots and they tend to have a sweeping growth pattern. My other two emphasize that sweeping look so for this one i decided to try to style this one more upright.

This art is hard.

New shoes for my Sierra Juniper today! This is a pot I purchased in 2013 from my sensei Boon. I like the color combination with the live vein. Will be a closer match when the live vein is cleaned and brushed. Next step will be a lime sulphur treatment for the deadwood to continue assisting with preservation and health of the tree. The tree has adapted well to this local since moving from California and it will be time to wire and style this fall. Allow time for recovery from repot. Two pictures, old pot ( James Barrett) new pot a little more refined look.

Sifted a lot of akadama. Got about 10 gallons of small grain and maybe 7 of medium grain. And lots of dust! Maybe I should get a super-fine sifter and collect some mame particles?View attachment 537303
I use a kitchen sieve to remove the dust for mame soil.

I have some mame pots coming into the mail so I sifted some soil up in preparation.

I also rode the struggle bus with my new Japanese White Pines. Every year I break my rule about buying trees from strangers on the internet and it bites me in the ass. At least these were actually JWP not like the time I bought a JBP from 99 cent bonsai auctions and it ended up being a Scots Pine.
