I also left some paralleled branching near the base—in case it survives—to thicken the trunk as it’s too narrow as it ascends.
Should I prune more foliage and add more wire to open up the branches and let light in?
understood, thanks very muchly!I would really think twice about removing any more branches from the trunk, regardless of bar branches. Any branches you'll want to add now need to be grafted into place
Thinning foliage around where you want to preserve ramification close to the trunk is not a terrible idea, but you can probably put that off until the first flush of growth is done. The tree has already shed foliage from last summer, so everything this year should at least be viable for the beginning of this season
I love this pot even more now that it's glazed!Potted up my orchid pot. It is ready as a birthday gift now.

Thank you. I bought a bag of orchid potting mix which is pretty coarse and consists of pine bark, perlite and charcoal. I lined the pot with a section of nylon netting from a bag of onions that came in meh tannish collor just in case...I love this pot even more now that it's glazed!
I don't know anything about orchids - what media do you plant them in? Is it coarse enough to stay within the pot?
Interesting to see that you're having a similar experience. Everything here is moving significantly ahead of where we were last year as well, also leaving me concerned about our notorious early April frosts.Found the first signs of spring. Kojo No Mai flowers starting to open up. Last year this happened on March 17th but we have had such a warm winter, I couldnt keep them dormant. Going to be a not so fun couple months if temps drop again!

Yeah we have been like 10 degrees above normal the entire winter except for a 1-2 week period in January. Plenty of days in the 40s, so my garage where I keep everything is getting up to 45 or so. I left things outside way longer than usual this year. I wanted to leave them out even longer, but each week seems to have the one odd night with high winds or dipping below 20 or something that make me uncomfortable with theh trees being outside. And its too annoying to be moving things back and forth multiple times per week, so I just leave them in the garage. I guess this is the price of my laziness! Extended forecast shows expected higher than normal temps to continue through the rest of February and into March, so maybe it will just stay warm and I can get things outside a month earlier than normal as well.Interesting to see that you're having a similar experience. Same thing here. Mother nature just reminding us she's still in charge.
Hmmm, should I or shouldn’t I?
