What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

View attachment 332773 About a month ago, I ran out of fish emulsion and all the box stores didn't have any on the shelf, and the pickings were slim on line... ordered this 5 gallon bucket for about $150 shipped.
@Dav4 How do you like the Neptune product. I've been considering a change from the blue stuff amended with kelp and fulvic.

I used the Neptune liquid over a decade ago before moving to Alaska fish emulsion, which I was satisfied with until I couldn't find it this past August. Honestly, I doubt I'll truly notice a difference with the switch, but I've got a few years before I run out of this latest batch... I'll get back to you in 2023 :) .

Can anyone give advice on how to style this tree? Any advice woul be very much appreciated!!!left.jpgthis?

Latest was a "Chizome" Acer Palmatum, a japanese Hornbeam to be a 5th tree in a forest planting I'll do in spring, and a workshop with Bill V on Saturday where I tried my hand at carving deadwood on a larch! Not as easy as some make it look haha The carving still needs lots of work (needs more curves and more depth)but an in progress shot below.

You can order pretty much everything they put on ebay directly on Wigert's website cheaper and you don't have to deal with the bidding. Not to say I haven't ever bought anything from them on ebay, because I have.
Completely concur. I have found the same to be true. Sometimes you see a specific plant on eBay you have to have but you will often pay more than if you buy directly. I have never gotten a bad plant from them and they will work with you if you let them know what you're looking for. Great service and great people.

It would help to know where you are, but I assume you are someplace with cold winters. Take it easy until spring. Don't repot and don't prune heavily until then. Study others this winter from pictures. You have a nice plant with good potential and you have months to choose a direction. Or, you can rush right into it and learn one of bonsaidom's greatest lessons, how to kill a nice plant.

Stopped at a nursery this weekend with my wife to grab some “odds and ends.” They had all their trees on clearance...

Big procumbens:

Clump-style picea abies ‘ohlendorffii’:

And last a small little Rocky Mountain Lodgepole Pine, that really I just got to learn how the species behaves:

I was alerted, on Ebay, to a severely marked down NineBark Gallon-sized nursery pot.. there were no actual pictures of SPECIFIC specimens provided.. buuuuut I was feelin’ lucky so I took the gamble.... it only ended up costing me 11.76... so I believe the potential “gain” is much greater than the potential “loss”... and “breaking even”, at THAT price.. using THIS line of reasoning, will be incredibly easy.

🤓
Well.. after much waiting.. the seller finally informed me that the tree was ACTUALLY in much too poor condition to sell.. which I appreciated... when he inquired about refunding me.. i simply asked if I could get another tree.. I was told to “look around” at their stock.. I then asked if I could substitute for a 2 gallon Ilex Verticillata or a “winter berry”... (native to my area) and this was deemed “even stevens” 🤓

So THAT is my most recent purchase..
🤣

Here’s my latest bonsai purchase. It’s been a long time coming.

I finally made it to the Flower Market in Monroe, MI. Only about 3.5 hours from me, but still a bit of a trip.
I grabbed a bougie, never had one. Also grabbed a lovely Kishu and some pots.
If you’re ever in the area, you definitely need to stop in.
