Do you have pictures of the salmon chojubai? Curious how big the plants he ships out are, as well as what the flowers look like. I cant find a single picture of a salmon chojubai, but I have one coming anyway next weekA box full of quince from Evergreen Gardenworks.
“Chojubai Red”
“Contorted Salmon Pink”
“O Yashima”
I’m ready for the flowers already
Make sure to share pics! I've been wanting a desmodium but haven't made the purchase yet.I have a couple little Desmodium being shipped Monday. There might be a couple of others coming along for the ride, to make the shipping worth it.
I will. They're just the cheap little ones. I wanted to test how they do inside for the winter first. I know soon it will be too cold to have things shipped, so I impulsively ordered a few things to tide me over until spring. New lights should be arriving today.Make sure to share pics!
You won't regret it. It never skipped a beat being brought inside. Grows like a happy weed and blooms non stop!@Clicio one of the others is a Powder Puff. I blame you and @Cadillactaste for that!!
Can't wait to see your Kumquat. Each have a quirky look to the ones I seen.Make sure to share pics! I've been wanting a desmodium but haven't made the purchase yet.
I've got a BRT, chojubai, salmon chojubai, and Hong Kong kumquat coming this week
The little 4" or 6" pots wigerts sells for a couple dollars? Thought about getting some too but didn't want to buy just a couple 8 dollar cuttings haha.I will. They're just the cheap little ones. Those $8 cuttings are pretty beefy and have very well developed root systems. I have 8 of them and the nice thing is that they vary so much from plant to plant that they give you quite a variety of design options. The little 4" or 6" pots wigerts sells for a couple dollars? I get it, but I don't have room inside right now for their big pots and I want to see how they do here first. Plus, I splurged a little on something else. The little 4" or 6" pots wigerts sells for a couple dollars? Thought about getting some too but didn't want to buy just a couple 8 dollar cuttings haha.
I've been out to New Mexico a couple of times now. There are spectacular Junipers all over the place. But the Alligator Junipers, especially on really large old trees, that bark is an absolute thing of beauty. Saw some very large old specimens out in Gila in particular. I collected a number of Juniper seeds (I think there are 3 main varieties) but not one sprouted for me. Good luck with yours Leo.Ordered seed of Alligator Juniper, Juniperus deppeana. It is native to the SW, mostly in New Mexico and south into Mexico proper. It can grow at elevation. In conversations I've learned it might do well as far north as I am. It is famous for developing a rough, plated "alligator bark" very unlike the bark of most Shimpaku.
I have been wanting to find a collected trunk with some age and gnarly-ness. But until I find such a specimen, I thought I'd start some from seed. I know Shimpaku from seed or cuttings, tend to need around 10 years of training, to become shohin bonsai. I figure I would see if I could get similar results to shimpaku in a similar time period. With the added plus of a rough checkered bark.
Time will tell.
So that is my latest purchase. Not really bonsai, as seed is the "nurseryman's phase" of bonsai hobby.
Those are nice for the money! Thanks for sharingThose $8 cuttings are pretty beefy and have very well developed root systems. I have 8 of them and the nice thing is that they vary so much from plant to plant that they give you quite a variety of design options.
Have you watched their video on wiring these young plants? It is worth watching.

Group of 3 in first pic. One on left is a bit light but very healthy. Pic on right is two that I am attempting to fuse together. One of the two already had multiple trunks. Sorry about the photo quality.
