Is that one grafted? Most arakawa I seen already barking up have some sort of barking on the lower trunk and surface roots while that one still looks green.Picked up another Arakawa at MABS this weekend to propagate and air layer. I fell in love with the low movement, taper and healed wounds in the bottom 1/3!!!

Yes it is, hence an air layering project. Is that one grafted? Most arakawa I seen already barking up have some sort of barking on the lower trunk and surface roots while that one still looks green.
Ok, I thought you meant as air layers like for propagation/sell. Cool, I am about to start a ground layer on my trident... as much as I want to do it, I am not looking forward to the work involved.Yes it is, hence an air layering project.
Doing a bit of that as wellOk, I thought you meant as air layers like for propagation/sell. Cool, I am about to start a ground layer on my trident... as much as I want to do it, I am not looking forward to the work involved.
Interesting, that is the mix I use minus the pine bark. Works fine for almost everything I have. I'll probably continue to buy either a custom mix of 50/50 monto-bonsai block or buy both separately and mix them here. Not a fan of adding bark fines to my mix. While it may retain more water, it is easier to remove full inorganic material than bark pieces where roots may grow through.bonsaijack inorganic substrate. seems they're about to switch to this gritty mix.

Have you tried it before? I used the MiracleGro and the Ortho inline sprayers and they sucked for bonsai trees. Too much flow. Great for landscape and trees. I think their inline liquid feeder with a watering wand would work better. When I was at the apartment I used a 5 gal bucket to dissolve the Miraclegro and then sprayed it on the soil with a cheap battery transfer pump.A Chapin inline sprayer so I can easily use miracle gro again.

yeah, i think those inline sprayers suck, too. i use a big trash can and a submersible shallow-well, greaseless pump from homedepot. extension cord for the pump. disconnect regular watering hose and attach to pump to use your regular watering wand.Have you tried it before?
