What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

Picea glehnii seedlings from International Bonsai. These could be my final trees for the year.

The ground has been frozen here for 6 weeks already, so no heeling in for these little guys. I removed the plastic wrap and put them in a plastic tub with a bunch of pine shavings for mulch. They can be on my porch for now.

This is an early Christmas present. Bought a Ponderosa Pine from Andy Smith.. I really liked the trunk and base, but still brainstorming on the branching. Nervously excited about developing the tree, but know I'll have to spend the next couple of years getting it happy and hoping for some good back-budding! If you have any suggestions or thoughts on development, they are all appreciated!

Mame Parrots Beak and Delonix Regia (flamboyant). I shouldn't have, but I had a weak moment. 🤷‍♀️ View attachment 343723View attachment 343724View attachment 343725
Flamboyant is going to be a challenge in your climate. Try to make it a big bonsai as the leaves are difficult to reduce. Are you aware they almost never bloom in pots? Stunning tropical on the streets of Florida and Rio, but not the easiest one for bonsai.
I admire your taste for challenges though!

I mostly just wanted the Parrot's Beak and it was a cheap two-fer. We saw some stunning Flamboyant trees when we were in the Bahamas a few years back.

That is a couple of little cuties. I love my parrots beak. They love artificial light and grow like little weeds. They are super easy to root from cuttings. You can root them in water.
Every blue glazed pot makes me think of you.
Is this plant a Parrot's beak Gmelina philippensis ?
Does it flower as bonsai? Nice interesting species

Lol, not going to lie, the pots they were in may have influenced me a bit. ;) Good to know how easy they root, definitely going to give it a shot.

A few weeks ago a bonsainut passed away. Today was the sell-off of his trees. only 6 people showed up. Such a sad situation. I brought 2 trees and 3 pots home. Not nearly enough to empty out a shed of pots, and 300 LARGE trees. But my car was full.

Larix project. Will look better as 2 trees..

Besides the two trees I already had bought, I was asked a week later whether I was interested enough in a large zelkova forest to pick that up too for a small price. An offer I could not refuse. But the forest was way to big to fit my car in one piece, so we split it into 2 sections:
