Wee trees

Very cool! What a blessing!
It's kind of a strange circumstance. We lost a daughter named Kelsey, our new niece is named Chelsey and is just a couple years older than our daughter. Weird things going on in the universe.

Wow Carol. I'm really sorry to hear that. I never had any kids but lost a couple brothers and witnessed just how hard it was on my parents. It's too much to bear.

It is strange how things work out though. It's good to know that sometimes God gives as well as takes.

Sorry @MacSpook , I seemed to have hijacked your thread beginning with my Braveheart comments. I'm not sorry to talk to Carol though.

So I've been watching the night time temps and leaving it as late as possible for collecting the wee trees from the roof at work. The less risk of frost after collection, the better. I noticed tiny buds beginning to break on some of them and thought now is the time.

Here they are after cleaning and sorting into size

The bottom row got a pot each. The top row are 2 or 3 to a pot to save space.

This will be their new home until they're big enough to identify and make a decision on where to go next.

Mmmmm. If they are sycamore I'm guessing keeping the leaves small will be a challenge.

Aye aye min! A fellow scotsman!

Sycamores grow extremely quickly but through pinching and defoliating regularly ( once settled into its new home) you can reduce internodes and leaf size quite significantly

Hey neebs thanks for dropping in. Plan at the moment is to let them grow a bit and positive ID.

👌Looks like a selection for sure, definitely be able to do something interesting with them, and they should be popping out anytime soon. Keep us updated! my bets are willow birch and sycamore.

Due to neglect while I was moving house, some of the wee trees didn't make it. 😞

Here are some of the survivors...

There are 11 survivors but didn't post pics of them all as there only seems to be 1 or maybe 2 different species. Would be great if anyone can ID these.

Definitely willow in that mix..

I agree with @Gabler about viburnum...

Some are looking Prunus, too... but would that make sense?

I'd bet those Prunus-looking ones ARE Viburnum,

Love your accent but we don' all talk like Mel Gibson in Braveheart ;). I'm near Glasgow and it's more like Hooyoulookinet yabampot.
I visited Scotland about 30 years ago. Had no trouble understanding people except for the Glaswegians. At Glasgow airport security guy was asking questions about my luggage (did I pack it, has anyone else had access to it, etc). I had to ask the poor guy to repeat everything a time or two. Couldn't make out what the heck he was saying.

Looking at the pictures on a computer screen rather than a phone, they appear to halve alternate leaves, so never mind.
