I thought callous tissue does not bud!
Is that not what a burr is? Callous upon callous.

First time seeing this thread. This is a really special tree, Bobby. Great work on it. I think it qualifies as what Walter Pall calls a "Fairy Tale Tree". It's only going to get better and better.
What about lime trees in parks where the excessive growth at the base is continually pruned back causing swelling and enormous burrs? Or woodland oaks where odd little branches keep growing out of the same growths on the boughs? That’s not just irregular grain.according to wiki:
A burl (American English) or bur or burr (UK English) is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds.
callus that grows over a wound in an attempt to heal the tree is a little different.
Pretty sure ive seen buds sprouting from callus before on elms, not often though

I know what you mean though so I’ll keep an eye out in future. Not to prove you wrong but just out of curiosity.
Very nice treesuits the smaller pot doesnt it...
btw the new mix is nothing fancy, just cat litter, pumice and a little compost, no ratios or anything, just mixed in a tub and ran through my fingers, until the texture feels right.
no wizardry or magic tricks
