Hi,
Just to answer the thread I have to admit I haven’t tried searching for Akadama here in NZ, so I created my own mix, from research of pages and pages on this site and other pages.
My mix has been Kitty litter (3-4 mm), bark chunks (3-6 mm) and pumice (3-4 mm) at about 33% of each.
To try a new substrate this next season I am looking forward to trying ZEOLITE as a main part of my mix. Natural, easy to access, and holds moisture nicely.
