Looks great! What is the issue with crossing roots?

I don’t like the way they look and they make it more difficult to repot. This one emerged from the trunk higher up than the rest of the roots. An ideal root system is one in which all of the roots emerge from the trunk at the same point, the roots are radial away from the trunk, they thin toward the edge of the pot, they’re balanced (i.e. similar skin size) and their are no downward facing roots. So when you repot, try and improve the root system toward the ideal. This one is getting really good.

Decandling time. The tree is notably stronger. Being in Houston, I probably could have waited a couple of weeks. But I’ll do it now even if it means the needles will be a little long this season. Before and after.
