Too Many Trees = an opportunity for you!

That BC must of met Bilbo Baggins and defeated Saruman handily.

Great bunch of trees.

My wallet thank you for living so far away :)

@sorce i am happy to say I already was offered a tree from the private collection which I fully intend to purchase from John as soon as I get the cash together! (Well... As soon as I accumulate it in a place where the wife won't "miss it"!)

So... Yeah- These trees are cool, amazing opportunities for people to get some great stock! ... but I was reviewing them mostly just relieved that he hadn't given up on me and the tree I picked out wasn't among them! :)

Next up is a very nice Bald Cypress that was collected in 2012. I started training this tree in 2014 so it is still young in its development process but it has all the right branches in the right places. It is in a large Mica container 21"x5.5" The root spread touches the edge of the container in at least 3 places.

Here is the chop...you can see it has begun to heal all the way around but needs to be rewounded in the Spring.

I think the branches on this tree are set up better than any I have developed before. As you can see the there is already excellent ramificatin begun close to the trunk. This tree has been wired twice and would benefit from continued wire training this winter.

And just for some size perspective

$800

Don't be fooled people... I've seen John G in person once and he's only 4' 8":)!!!

I was trying to convince my girlfriend to drive down that way to get my Christmas present... since that didn't work, you are invited to Quebec for some wine and cheese! Is that bald cypress from one of your youtube videos?

Thanks for the invite! That tree is not one from a video.

You've got at least another day....or so:)

hmmm, 4 days later and not a single inquiry about any of the trees posted????

This is surprising to me, so, I am just trying to understand...

I have not sold here before but when I have sold at shows my trees sell very fast....I am not in this as a business so I am able to offer material at a good value.

Some differences with this effort...
1. Shipping is an issue of my own creation....but figured there would be enough folks going to one or the other regional event that I offered to deliver trees to...maybe there isn't??
2. I listed more expensive trees here but I thought there was still enough value in those prices to make them enticing....

Just in case anyone is wondering, I will not be vending at shows this year or most likely at all in the future. This effort was my way of making a few trees available without completely spending my entire weekend tied up in a sales booth. I don't enjoy that and would much prefer not selling anything at all to spending the entire weekend worried about sales.

Here is one thing I wonder???
As a hobbyist, are you more likely to buy material that is not in a bonsai container... I know I prefer not to, but that wouldn't hold me back from buying material that I really wanted

I also wonder if trying to sell online is limiting in itself just because of the "I need to hold it in my hand" syndrome... Doesn't seem to be a real issue on Facebook Auction pages (I have noticed that pots sell better than trees on those pages)

If you have any thoughts I would interested in reading them!

I think shipping is your bottleneck. On the front page of BNut, my screen tells me that 254 people have visited this site in the last 24 hours. What % of that 254 will be going to one of those shows you mentioned? Maybe 10%...maybe. Let's just say it is 10%, then your propsect list in the last 24 hours is only 25 people. At a 1% sales rate, you would sale .25 bonsai trees. That also assumes those 25 people also made it over to the "Tree Selling" forum.

Those numbers are completely off the top of my head and are probably wrong, but I hope you get my point. I think if your trying to prospect online, then I think shipping must be an option. The FB auctions you mentioned almost always offer shipping.

Just my 2 cents. Your stuff is amazing and I wish I was going to one of the shows you mentioned b/c I would be part of your target market. Good Luck!

Sorry John, but since I'm not traveling down that way and you're not traveling up this way, I pretty much stopped when you said no shipping. Otherwise, I'd definitely consider the azalea and maybe a couple of others.

I have no problem buying trees in bonsai containers. Can always use containers!

As for the "hold it in my hand" issue...personally, I've bought a number of trees based on photos and while I've never been "screwed" by someone trying to hide something (a major flaw or health issue), photos just don't give you a full view of the tree. So for me to buy based only on photos, I have to feel I'm getting a good price that accounts for that, in other words, a discount compared to what I'd be willing to pay in person for a similar size/style/species. Perhaps others feel differently.

Believe me, I'd be all over that BC if I could afford it right now and my car was bigger, I'd be willing to drive to you if it was.lol
Great trees, great prices!

I actually joined the forum recently because of your tree sale. I didn't see the "no shipping" stipulation at first, so that tanked my ability to purchase any of the specimen that you're selling. I'm in Albuquerque and the mechanisms in place to pick up a tree and bring it here proved to be too much this time. That being said, I don't have an issue with buying from pics if I feel the tree is well represented (yours are) and buying in containers, for me, makes sense. I've recently moved here and the only spare container i had shattered in the move.

Sorry Ryan! I actually got notification of your post this weekend and by the time I got back to the thread there was no post...I figured you realized what I had said about shipping. Sorry I couldn't help you out!

Thanks for the quick replies GDY, Chris and Aaron.

I suspect my feelings about shipping are not going to change anytime soon....You could offer my twice the price on those trees and pay shipping charges and it would still be difficult to get me to ship a tree to you:) I just despise the whole process involved with shipping trees.

I have no plans to go to any of the events listed or I would be inclined to jump all over that elm group or the chinzan. All of them are great trees though.

I understand! I've only shipped one tree and it took me several hours to get it packed securely and then off to the shipper. I suppose one gets better/faster over time...
