Steven...
PM me your address...
I gotta send you a pillow...
Some time in the future.....
When you slap yourself for not cutting off that left trunk...
You can use the pillow to soften the blow!

Teasing....well....:p.

Seriously....
Awesome so far!

But keep looking for a bud within here...View attachment 155003

As you DO want your thinner trunk to divide below your thicker trunk. Something like that action right by that red arrow would be perfect!

I'd assess a possible repot around Father's day next year.
A little deeper as the blue and you'll Probly get some more radial surface roots started.

Bro..,
The more potential the tree....
The more persistent I get...
And I love this Lil fattie!

Please keep us posted!

hahaha...thanks Source for your entertaining response. Ok I will contemplate the cut of the left trunk. When I do I will kindly look for some direction on the "angle of the cut etc. I'm going to post some more photos from different angles to show other perspectives of the existing branching. The front view I keep posting is a little misleading of the center fat trunk and the little branch coming out of it. It's not the prettiest plant ;)... but I've become friends with it

little misleading

Nice!

Rule #1!
Learn the art of the fake!

Lol!

That is a great front!

I'm gonna leave you a couple of my ficus threads to watch.
The big one reached earth last summer, so I set it up to get roots out to the ground again this year, though it hasn't made it yet...
The little one, has roots down into the ground, and has just been cut back.

https://bonsainut.com/threads/ficus-ben-over-rockish-type-material.17483/

https://bonsainut.com/threads/purpose-of-the-past-post-giant-ficus.17047/

I'm going to pull these out in fall.

If all goes well...
You may want to consider allowing yours some earth next season!

Read thru the threads and note dates!

I keep looking back at how long it's been, and how, no matter how slow, the whole plan comes together...

I feel like that's all you need to realize this one into greatness.

A year reaching earth...
Either planted directly, colander in the ground, or even just roots out the drainage holes....
Can make huge changes!

Stay the course!

Damn, this tree wasn't supposed to survive after that.. I'm surprised it did and glad.
Please stop touching it till spring.. then just a repot. It really needs sometime to breath between insults.

I would do what sorce said.
for a better taper.(only if the tree back to its health)20170817_144344.jpg
left can be 2nd trunk or main branch.
this is my input for a better taper(wait till the tree recover that is)
1.remove top left and keep the part that I circle to become new sub branch.
2. on the right, remove the most right branch and leave the center branch to grow wild without any cutting as long as it required to achieve the right taper. And yes, it with outgrow the left 'branch' and u will automatically have the right taper.
3. control the left branch by cutting(with selected sub branch that is) to slow its growth while the right part(main branch) you can leave it alone, let it run wild. (the arrow)
4. after having the right size for the main trunk, u can start to choose/ cut back the main trunk(the arrow) for the next process.

Goodluck.

so far you are doing a great job keeping the tree alive(tankie tree afterall) :)

cheers,
toto

just a photo update. I very happy it's alive and well.

I'm happy it's alive and well too!

But what about you?

3/4 full bottle of the roo just sitting there....

Are you alive and well?

Drink up!

......

I'd be rubbing out all that collar growth right above the shoot toto circled.

Those couple strong shoots up in the top are plenty to keep that trunk alive.

I'm not saying take everything off..

Green now...yellow in a couple weeks, red in a month.

20170822_024547.jpg

You can see this tree knows where it's getting its best energy from. It's sending a ton of shoots over your key branch, and it won't be long till the tree deems that circled key branch unnecessary.

You gotta do something to tell it it's not the best idea to put all its resources into that top part.

Nurture that Lil Furker down there!

+1 for Bloody amazing!

yup, that's a good way to slowly control and keeping the tree in good health. couldn't agree more.

I was thinking about this the other day....

"Always having stuff to do "

I have a couple things that need this weekly attention.

And some things with no plan that I just pick at here and there so far apart that it doesn't even notice, but slowly gets better.

Like... super long game projects.

Cool. Share some new project of yours.

Hmmm....OK!

I been waiting for a couple summer repots to show life, thinking about it....I realized that after every repot or heavy work this year, it has rained well within 2 days!

Earth loves me!

Tag me when you stick up some pics of your trees. Threads of your trees are very rare!

Thank you source. I will study what you said and may have some questions if thats ok.

She's an ugly one. I thought I would update with a photo of this plant. I really have no plan on where to go with this but today is my start to focus on it. My next picture will have some comments on it where I plan to cut. Any ideas are very welcome. I'm just happy it's alive and learned a lot from the trunking of it last year.20180528_173941_HDR.jpg

Hey Source..... have a look at my update. I'm thinking about what you said here and may cut it now ( curious about the angle of the cut and how close to the new branch. Let me know what you think. Many thanks.

Nice.

Right at that orange line looks safe....
But any further out wouldn't hurt....
I might like to see that branch a little bigger before cutting back to it...
Maybe just keep it from getting shaded out this summer and cut back to it next summer.maybe during winter..

That yellow part just need a mad growth...
Mad growth till that stub swells and them 2 branches start making sense...

I might JUST cut that Wang off the back...
Let these other 2 part get energy. .

These 2 trunks....in time. Are Damn nice!

Woot!
