An update as of today. The main branch looks weird attached the the ball trunk. I'm not really sure what to do from here. Maybe start pruning back and get some ramification going. Thought I would share anyways as this was a complete learning experience for me and it's still alive. There was a lot of input here to help me. Thank you, Steven

You can prune and work on ramification, but also let some sacrifice branches grow wild in selected spots to generate energy and help the transition taper. I.e to help the new leader thicken so that it matches the trunk, you probably want one branch going straight up several feet. And for any branches that you might want to thicken to create balance.
