I stopped by my local Wenthworth Nursery today to see what they might have that I could chop up and grow.
As I was talking to the manager about what I was looking for, she told me there was a section in the back with a bunch of junipers that had been there for awhile and that if I found anything there, she would give me a good deal.
The junipers were all mashed up together and had been for some time. None of the junipers had any growth less than 2 feet from the trunk so I passed on them. I did spot a Thuja leaning over against the fence that had, IMO, a huge trunk, growth very near the base of the tree and some budding in close. The tree was really tall so I was not optimistic about being able to afford it despite it not having ANY tags on the tree or pot. When I went back inside and asked about it the manager asked me how big the pot was and I told her. She then quoted me a price of $10. So, I bought it. The original price for the tree was $300!!!! I was out the door for $10.59!!!
The tree is 8.5 feet tall, the trunk at the current soil line is 4" in diameter and 13" in circumference. I will look at it over the next couple of weeks before deciding how far down to chop it.

If you have an annuity and you need cash now, call J.G. Wentworth! 877-CASH-NOW!

I didn't know they sold trees.
I didn't know they sold annuities!!:)
That is a nice tree but, with the straight trunk mine has, I was thinking a formal upright or lightning strike type of style.

Fwiw thuja is reluctant to bud in old wood so cutting them back to get foliage closer to the trunk can take some time and knowledge. Branches that have all their foliage removed/pruned off generally die

This one has budding and foliage in close to the trunk and down low.
