Those Pot Materials!

Fallers? Huh my Pistacia from Italy flew 11 floors down few years ago. I was lucky and happy seeing nobody was laying down close to the tree and its broken pot. Bonsai as a weapon... I think it was a sign she needed to be repotted...and I've been securing my balcony trees this way since that:

The tree is alive & kicking surprisingly.

Bumpin with a note....cause folks are still looking for colander material that's inexpensive and lasts......

Link.....

Item number...
XV1347

So....I grew herbs in these chili stained ones....I used seed starting mix....and perlite....with a drainage layer of the sifted cement rocks on The bottom.
90% of the roots were in the bottom drainage layer.....

Just saying.....Fuck dirt!

Has anyone asked for a free sample from them? I wonder how much they send you.

Thinking about buying some mesh from them soon as the possibility of moving makes it so that I dont want to put anything in the ground. I hate that they dont show their price online.

If you are building baskets/Colanders, just buy the S that I posted on the first page.

I promise I went through all the narrow down!
At 47.5 inches wide, it's $7.22 a linear ft. With a minimum of $50 per item I got 7ft, about $65 after shipping. About 9 LF was shipped.
That's a lot of material!

It's on page 1. The price oughta be close enough to the same.

I got it in the hands of 3 others now.
@Leo in N E Illinois being the latest...

Where I put window screen on the inside.....
The window screen heaved up crazy.
I'll get a picture...I'll tie it together next year.

But the pots....the pots are gangster.

They get all caked with deposit on the outside....and you can just bend the material a bit, knock it, and it flakes off....
I could pressure wash em!

They froze dead solid already....and are taking another beating...full sun no brittle!

Take Sorces word on this stuff. I'm one of the three. Just handling it and I know it's primo.

Thanks for the help; I am comparing the cost of making a few of these to just buying some pond baskets.

I may buy the baskets for now, and prepare some like yours for next spring.

You still have time! And I'm still trying to save you money!
Hell, I'd ship you 3 pond baskets I ain't gonna use of it was worth it!

Did you see the diagram I made for Mike?20160206_081709.jpg

Folding these up and stapling em to a plysheet...

You could cut wood disks out and just staple it to the outside.....mad fast....
You could make each pot right within a repotting session!

I did a cost analysis somewhere....
When you add in the "forever" factor, it kills anything!

Add onto that an old brittle basket falling apart during a move, and you could be saving a nice tree too!

Do it! Do it!

I keep forgetting I saved this diagram in my phone!

Here is what I envision as easiest for you to maintain all the collected trees.

Where the hell do you find the time? I am retired with no children underfoot, no real schedule, and I just shop for best quality at a good price. I just received all of these(50), made in USA, recyclable, sturdy fur under 50USD with shipping  Takes a lot of time just to fill them - no time to make them as well

I suspect pigeons.

If there's a Guinness record for smallest bonsai....there has to be one for an 11 story fall! I still can't get over it!

Where the hell do you find the time?

The top right corner of my phone, the oven, the car, and the TV!
Lol....

I truly believe once you stop believing in time as a forward moving dimension you can do more within the constraints of the Suns movements!

I decided to solve a couple problems.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Have you got your contract with Walmart to do bulk sales yet. There are people in every city who would have windowsill bonsai. Congrats by the way on your ingenuity.
Cheap zipties to hold em shut while putting them in a mold and pouring the concrete.
The elite bonsaist would use expensive ones. They'll have a 1% to 2% better hold power.

The problem is it's not the smallest tree, but it was growing in unstable tall plastic nursery pot.

Here it is... needs AL and chopping...

I don't know if it was the bumping or the winter boredom....

But I got another bag of concrete today.

Plan on making more bases but with holes.

And some thin disks for the Sorcihara technique!

Maybe a pot.

To the trees!

Big one is a little over 7in.
Molded in a food container I found in the alley.
I put a piece of airline tube in the center to screw a tree down through.

Small one is a little over 5...My time capsuled Arctic Trident is going in there.
AKA the Narwhal Killer!

I think I'm gonna make my own molds and put these to market.
Short 10k customers cause you know the secrets.

A finite box, or something that will last forever? ;)

Sorce,

Came across this thread while doing a search on colanders and pond pots/baskets.

I like the idea of being able to custom make pots any size I'd like. Thanks for the link to the web site. I ordered some samples today.

Are you still loving these pots? Are you using them for deciduous trees? Some comments I've seen on other threads mention these types of pots tend to try out too quickly for deciduous trees.

Thanks!
