After burning through a Peugeot 206+ (engine made a poof sound, then went locomotive sound with serious sulfur smell).I'm super late to the car party, never needed one since public transport had my back. But I got my drivers license not long ago.
I'm thinking of buying a piece of rust on wheels, you know, one of those first cars where dents are more expensive to repair than the entire car is worth. Since our roads are as smooth as a bowling alley, most second hand cars don't have any suspension issues or mangled frames.
What are other things to look out for when buying a second/third/fourth hand car? I'm familiar with the layout and function of most parts, but I don't know what the indicators of serious dangers to the passengers and myself would look like, other than leaking brake fluid and the obvious stuff.
If you could share some advice about what to look out for, I'd appreciate it!
She's my sweet little thang, she's my pride and joy! Haha, nice thing. just posted my 57 VW bug.My 74 VW thing
After burning through a Peugeot 206+ (engine made a poof sound, then went locomotive sound with serious sulfur smell).
Then got a 2005 Mazda 6, 1.8 sport. What a beast! Drank 1 liter of oil per 100km within a week - no blue smoke. Got rid of it after three months.
I now have a crappy 2007 VW Jetta with a 227000km history, with wet floors - unknown cause yet; kitty litter floor cover to trace the origin. But at least the engine isn't running dry and it's not consuming gasoline like a Humvee as the mazda did.
If you guys ever need advice on second hand cars, let me know! If I'd buy it, you shouldn't. It seems I have a magic touch of picking the worst. But at least it looks fancy on the outside.
