Stoned...

Working on this “Four-foot” shack..You see these all over “hillbilly country” 🤣🤣

Also similar to my above, “oilin’ the rusty spots” pot.. I tried out several new techniques this time, some I like.. some I REALLY don’t like.. but I still “work the piece” until it is something I am truly proud of.. because if NOT... it won’t make it to the kiln. ;)

This is also the largest scale I’ve tried.. which is why the aim, “four-foot shack”, is a smaller structure.

So Jasper wanted to make a structure.. a little house.

So I showed him how..

Upon reaching the “ceiling discussion” he asked if he could leave it open so he could decorate the carpet and place things inside...

After doing this, he asked me to put four small holes in the bottom so he could plant “hens and chicks” in it..

;)
(That’s magic marker “war paint” on his eyes)
🤣🤣

Well as this particular series of events has happened twice to me.. I am able to understand why..

So.. when glazing greenware.... any joint with any exposure will absorb JUST the H2o portion of the glaze.. this leads to problems with structural integrity as the glaze suspension dries upon the “wall”.. leaving the seams, realistically “moistened” for much longer than the visible particulate suspension...

So the conclusion is: When glazing greenware, make sure your joints are TIGHT.. like a dolphin’s..... you know!

Ooooooor wait a few hours in between coats... and brush-on glazing greenware takes many more coats than you’d think.

So in response to the structural collapse, I “quick” made THIS piece... and I’m actually MUCH more proud of THIS one.

Was trying out rounded right angles.. but now.. they (Rounded right angles) just seem 80’s ash-tray esque. 🤣

Good to know!

you've spared me grief
...not like "I punched myself in the face & had to cut my bangs to get free" story from the girl who forgot to tie her hair back when using a Dremel sort of grief, but none the less! 😉
On the other hand, could be a big important gift I'm pushing to get into a last firing before a holiday -- might feel like punching myself!

Child labour ! Jasper will sue you when he gets old (and you're a millionaire) and ask for $2,000,000.

PS : at the time when some of my friends rolled those funny cigarettes, my english was elementary, and the only thing I could understand was "everybody must get stoned".

That's how it all started... 😢

Joking apart, it's great to have kids learn from their own hands.

Have to ask, before I forget -- are they little hunting blinds?
Depends on how close you are to mountains. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 They’re sometimes HOMES.

Yes.. most are hunting blinds.. some are “pit-stop” shacks in between crop parcels.

Some are little warming shacks for kids, waiting for the bus... it gets cold here.

🤣🤣

I recently swore off 101 forever due to this problem, not enough grog.
I have managed to break other things but they can take like 50% more water.
Keeping your Specific Gravity higher will lessen the problem.

Stronger joints may help, but it's superficial at best.

The realest problem is the rectangle.
If you can imagine a round pot, expanding and contracting equally across all wall.
A square less so.
A rectangle even less so due to the larger differential between sides in actual distance moved when expanding and contracting.

Still hip to be square, gangster even!

Cool! Thank you!!

THIS firing.. i have some things i’d like to to try.. overs and unders and playing around with stain oxides... so I think I will attempt to do a bisque/glaze separate fire this time.. and compare/contrast

Also... I tried making a figure last night... something REAL basic.. just to see if I UNDERSTOOD how to construct and assemble a 5-piece humanoid form.

This is where I STARTED.F3058B89-2A19-4E6D-8FCB-E55341D58B16.jpeg
And this is where I’m at now.. not completely done.. or satisfied... but I learned alot.. and they will only improve..1DDAC98E-950F-4BDE-80F9-902DEF147AEB.jpegF8C4E514-9C4E-42C3-BEF8-EA0DD718C638.jpeg

Oh, this is going to be GOOD -- I'm sitting here not coming up with words, but I'm smiling real good. (Excellent cure for my "didn't sleep well last night" un-Rested ol' Beast Face 😆)
