Stewartia Monadelpha

Always wanted one, but I've literally never seen any local nursery have them. But you had to send me googling, huh...

Just had one delivered from Greenthumb this spring. Good source for a good start FYI.

Green thumb got theirs from the same field I dug mine in East Georgia.

Technically, the field you got yours from, got them from Green Thumb.

Dave Laproise, the owner, told me he sold them to Green Thumb, but whatever. Have fun nitpicking trivial details If you must.

Technically correct is the best kind of correct. :). Apparently you've tired of details, so I'll keep the rest to myself.

thanks for the link. I have killed two I bought, no matter how much i babied them. I love them so much though!

It might be because my water is too alkaline. Ive since started using ph down and rain water to supplement my watering, maybe I will grab the cheapest one left.

I wonder if the very light dormant season we get here that is doing them in, I dont know.

Nice find, Brian. This one will be a nice addition to your collection. I like the base and I expect it will thicken up over time.

I assume you paid less than the going price at Green Thumb?
Thanks, I am very happy with how it is coming along. I paid $75.00...wait til you see the $150 JBP I pulled that day too...😜

Sadly, Bill was sold out, but I managed to insta-acquire one off Amazon--just a twig, but the bark is already gorgeous!

Congratulations, enjoy. They’re a great species and you should start a thread at some point to share its development.

A night photo to put this thread back on the tracks:

And a night shot a few weeks later, after unwiring. It’s getting unruly again, so when new growth gets a few nodes long, I’ll prune it back again and maybe add a little wire. Didn’t notice the caterpillar until I downloaded the photo. Apids love this tree too...

East Georgia? Do you mind sharing their contact info? I am at East Georgia and I am having trouble finding them.
Thank you.
