Some advice on this new tree please

Are / how are you going to solve the bar-branches?

Pinching is bad

That is how I keep mine from abandoning foliage close to the trunk. Continuous pinching to be exact. Every time I walk by them I pinch some of the tips off.
Don't do a lot to them in one season. And by that I mean if you repot during one season, don't do anything else major.

I bareroot them, cut the roots back and wire them in one sitting. In the summer. I only have 2 but they are doing great. Mine get repotted every year or they start to get sickly looking.

Sorry in the delay in replying, been a busy week with Niece's graduation and Nephews B day and other things.

Grimmy- I will get a straight on pic as well as one from the top to post soon as I can so you can offer some advice.

Cypress- That's one thing I have not decided yet. There's actually two sets of branches that are pretty much right in line. The one I may leave because I think it may take too much away by removing either in that set. The other I am thinking about maybe turning into some deadwood / jin with it later on down the road. Not sure yet though.

Grimmy here's a front pic and a pic from the top. I removed one of the upper branches the other day that someone pointed out to me so that one is gone. After taking the pic from the top I see it's still very thick up there so I'm thinking about taking another branch out, the one I have pulled back in the other pic. It does point a bit more forward as well as looks pretty heavy up top I think. So should that one perhaps go?

Thanks for any advice.

Can you bend one (or more) of those branches on the left to the back?

Yeah they will go backward a bit without issue. Just can't get them angled downward anymore is the one direction they won't go. How much backwards should I try to get them?

Yes. Please. It is very 2 dimensional.

And, I can't understand why you think those branches will break. Trees with branches that size can withstand a lot of bending. you should be able to bend those almost parallel to the trunk -- and they need it.

It's hard to say without seeing the tree in person. Just try to get some depth to it.

They are very stiff, I am only in my 3rd season but I do know when a branch is about to break and there is one that seems rather stiff, it's mainly the left one that is larger than seems very hard to bend. The rest are a bit more workable than that one.
