Show us your Oak (Quercus) Pre-Bonsai

@Housguy hooked me up with this quercus suber in June 2020:

Need to focus on the right-side trunk this season. Will cut back to force some back budding for more branch options. I was hesitant to do so in 2021 because the tree lost some vigor during 2021 due to some leaf-munching pests. Will use a systemic pesticide this year to keep them away.

I love how these trees backbud:

(Summer 2020)

I probably should shrink the canopy on the left while I’m at it.

Looking good John, love the corking on this double trunk!

Here's one of my white oaks I collected in 2020 from the backyard. The leaves are still on from 2021. I guess I'll snip them off soon since it should start putting out new ones late winter.

Do the leaves on northern red oaks reduce? I’ve got tons of seedlings and they have such a pretty fall red color to them.

I have another thread on my new oak

Can be done. This one finds defoliation of all/most large leaves after harden off generates some smaller leaves on new ramification😊.

Another white oak I collected last fall from the backyard. These are new leaves that just popped out the last couple weeks which took me by surprise - didn't expect til Feb. or March. In fact I wasn't even sure if it would come back to life. I like the double trunk but the nebari needs major growth and so is buried.

And 2 more oaks also from the backyard this past fall. One is just under 5 inches tall, the other is just under 5 FEET tall. Not sure exactly what kind of oak the little guy is, but the big guy is a white oak. It does have two branches near the top (hard to see - I tied the top to the crape myrtle to stabilize it) and the buds seem to be starting to swell and I can see a touch of green. Once again something I didn't expect this time of year. (I also have a maple coming to life).

These are my latest additions. Still have to wait for them to bud out this spring (fingers crossed). These are all Quercus buckleyi
