Quercus crassifolia, an evergreen. Just got these two trees for $150 dollars (3000 pesos) from the state of Morelos. Big leafs on these trees, but we got a long road ahead of us.

Need to focus on the right-side trunk this season. Will cut back to force some back budding for more branch options. I was hesitant to do so in 2021 because the tree lost some vigor during 2021 due to some leaf-munching pests. Will use a systemic pesticide this year to keep them away.

Man, this tree reminds me a lot of Mirai's that they have a few live stream videos on. I highly recommend checking it out, if you haven't already, to see how he went about styling it.

Thanks! Yeah, these were collected near Abilene Texas. The dry weather and rocky soil tends to stunt their growth.

Thank you, looking forward to developing it more! We repotted it in December of 21'. We did half bare root and cleaned up under the main root base.

We'll do the other half in 23'. The tree is recovering well but did drop some leaves, a good indicator to not push them any further.

Here’s a Quercus Robur pre bonsai stump I’ve been working on for a couple of years. Trying to grow out and thicken some branching at the moment. Some of the branches may not be retained eventually. Approach grafting roots along with growing the branches as the Nebari has a few gaps.

Cork bark oak

Here is a Cork bark oak that I've been working on for several years now. The first picture of it is when it was just field dug and when I brought it home from a trip to Mendocino back in 2008. The planting angle has been changed since the first potting and the main trunk has been cut twice...

Here is a Cork oak that I have been growing for several years. The trunk is about 3 inches in diameter above the root base and I have let the tops run to add girth to the lower base of the tree. Any advise on which leader to cut for future development? jeff

I just did a full repot tune-up on my Coast Live Oak this weekend. I improved the nebari by removing poorly positioned roots, removed some of the lava-heavy sections of soil, reduced the depth of the root ball, and set it up for success with fresh akadama and pumice in this Japanese production pot.


I kinda wish I had looked around my yard for a longer and wider pot, but this one worked quite well and looks great. The other attachment is for context and from May of last year.
