It might be worth the trip...I wish I hadn't seen that!! Now I'm thinking about the 14 hour drive up there . . .
Wish I could like this a million times. That's some funny craplisten to treebeard
Haha, but if you'll recall, tree beard had to be pushed into acting . . . He would have waited too long, like I was in danger of doing with that second branchWish I could like this a million times. That's some funny crap
Pleasantly.It's an elm. You're surprised?
Pleasantly.
I wish I had six or eight more of these!
I'm right there with you Al. Regarding the latest cut - that's what I meant by "I'll probably bring it down a little lower once it pops new buds." Your suggestion of about half its current length is right in line with my thinking. The lengths of your chops need to diminish with each successive chop. The last chop you did is too long for the chop below it. The last chop needs to be half its length.
Now you have to make a decision. Based on trunk diameter the tree is almost now too tall. If you are keeping the trunk this size do not allow the top to grow any more height, chop the last leader in half and build the canopy very shallow or it will look like a giraffe, and that is not cool.
If you were hoping to have a larger trunk, you screwed up and chopped the tree stopping its growth and any future ideas on making it larger.
Other than that, carry on.

Get one. They're cool. What amazes me....is that shoot is about as long as my power leaf shoot.
Except....this one has no less than 25 branches and 400 leaves. Mine has 7-10
Leaves, and that one branch.
Roughly the same surface area!
Amen to the tiny leaves!
If I find a nice one at the Midwest Bonsai Society show.....I might buy it!
Sorce
The ones I have seen there are just to small for me. My feet don't have as many years walking around on the sunny side of dirt to wait for the trunks to get a large enough caliber on them that I would want.Theres also been some on the FB auctions.
