David Elm (Ulmus davidiana)
I really don’t consider it a successful germination unless the tree makes it through its first year (but I’m a little excited at the prospect of growing one of these). Although the seeds were planted in July of last year, this little one appears to be the sole survivor and didn’t decide to reveal itself until this last month.
I sure hope it makes it through the winter.

I have around 100 of these relatively rare (dinosaur) trees of various sizes. If anyone is interested in trading for one of these (or any other species that I’ve posted on this thread) please shoot me a message.

So far this batch of saplings has faired well through two (fairly mild) New England winters . . . if a Cape Cod winter can be called a New England winter.

Extreme Collection
The EXTREME collection is from trees at the highest elevations on the ridgetops. Usually more inland. Hotter, drier, perhaps more cold tolerant as well, in snowy areas.
I have a half dozen two year old seedlings in pots. I’ve found the same to be true about their speedy growth rate. I imagine it’s that much more pronounced if you plant them in the ground.
