Yeah... sadly 99.9% snapped... tiny sliver of bark holding.
Because of trying to wire to change directions I couldn't see it holding in place whichever method I tried - I've managed to heal broken/snapped branches and trunks with PTFE tape (used by plumbers to wrap around threads for pipework joints) in the past.
I can live with the branches removed. May even help with the development of the Hawthorn. This is a Japanese Hawthorn (Crataegus 'crenata' not 'monogyna'), can grow quite fast and I'll need to watch to remove the wires. Already have some small scarring after not keeping an eye on it
I don't think I've shared here in the past but can do. Probably as a new thread rather than here in your post - don't want to be seen to hijack and divert away from your maple.
