Purpose of the past post. Giant Ficus.

They were like 1900 lumens...
These "active Area" ones are cheaper and 2900 lumens.

They work...but the LED, WORKS WORKS!

S
I'm getting the gentle and subtle hint that I should use LED........ lol

Wow... Didn't realize year 6 begins this November!

Random photos for observation.

Roots want to grow perfect on the surface with no assistance!

Grafts...failed Grafts. Uneccessary grafts.

More.

Sorce, what’s going on with that trunk that’s taking off for the moon?

Good insight in this thread, by the way, thanks for sharing. Benjaminas are fun.

How's this beast growing?

That thread graft put out some leaves a while back and is putting on now too.

I was safe to put outside a week ago but haven't gotten around to it...

Maybe today.

I'll update!

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?

I've never seen a braided joint that was useable...
However...
I've never seen a braided joint with so much foliage down low either!

Clean the base up from those old leaves and find a front that might work.

You Can grow braid bulges out with some time and fert!

Free? Nice!

Yes, it was given to me. I cut a lot of the top off , how much root can I take off? The root ball is about 16” deep

I don't see a reason not to give it hell.

Heal em!

Not so worried about appearance, just want to keep it alive. How aggressive can I be? I’d like to cut 2/3 of the roots, put it in a training box and wait for next year.

You can nearly saw it off flat. They can grow new roots from almost nothing. Like literally you can cut off 90% or more and it won't skip a beat.

A couple caveats - it should be growing like crazy. Like you should be able to almost feel it pushing new leaves every hour and it's a bushy mess. Helps if it's hot and humid. Keep it in good soil. Yours seems like it could use a repot into good soil in a bad way...but it is not growing hard yet. If it were mine I would repot into a large training pot and leave 50% or more of the roots. Leave the big root work until you know it's growing really well.

(Also start your own thread...)

I reckon, If not regularly, with grafts.

Don't be worried about keeping it alive!

Maybe a layer from higher will be better?

These big tubular things aren't fun to start with.

I think you are right.

So I reckon this is my first successful thread graft. Though it won't be successful to me till the chop above it heals with aesthetically pleasing results.

Likely won't chop above it till it is half the size of the base anyway.

Entry on the left. Exit right.
