Powerful Prunus mume

Yes it's the dark pink variety.

cool buddy, i only sort of realised recently that the flowers can vary from yellow, pink or white. i thought they were all white. the white flowered ones could easily be mistaken for blackthorn as the bark is quite similar.

Oh my.. Now what did you do :)

I do hope you remembered that mume backbud very poorly and did not trim beyond visible leaf buds!
Who was selling this at Noeladers? Havent seen it!

hi, yep ive not done any pruning, but i did manage to break a couple branches unintentionally today.
the supplier tells me not to prune unless there are viable green buds, so i wont begin to compact it until i see further buds popping down the branches over next few weeks. the tips are beginning to leaf out now. im told they back bud, but obviously not prolific because usually growth is quite course. but with that said ive been seeing some fairly ramified specimens over the net.

Wow!
Love the gnarlyness....
Nice drill/carving work, "bringin the tech and the gnar", to quote my English brother Geoff Rowley.

Edit: I just realized that that reference is very, very obscure.....sorry.

Lovely material. I've put an omoi no mama in the ground a week back. Good luck with it :)

was at the nursery earlier, here is one with pink flowers and another white flowered one with great bark character

I was there yesterday, very tempted by the white flowered one. I know they're not common here, but you just don't get much tree for your money so didn't pick it up.... yet

if you like white flowers, there's always blackthorn, hawthorn, crab apple;)

i decided to reveal a bit of deadwood

Oh my God! TERMITES!

Sorry Bobby, I know you (and many others like this style), but I think we should respect the tree, not maim it to suit our fantasies.

No hard feelings for being so straightforward I hope ? Just a personal opinion.
