@penumbra, I guess the idea is while it is usually insignificant, it may become significant in the right situations.

I gather aged clay is more plastic due to the characteristics of the bacteria and how they occupy the spaces between clay particles.

If one section, the joints particularly, have a larger number of bacteria, it could potentially change the drying rate or capability of that area to freely move water through those spaces.

I think it's most important to be mindful of the stuff we know we can't see.

This is definitely true..as I learned from my time clay body processing...

It's interesting information to consider.

Makes one want to figure out how to "use it" to one's advantage

A few more.

Getting closer to the colour I want for the oxide washed parts. Think I need to reduce the amount of gertsley borate as it's a bit too glossy. Anyone have suggestions?

These are really nice pots. Are any for sale? If so, what are sizes and is #2 available?
Just reduce the gb. You might even want to try other fluxes / bonding agents. Frit 3134 is one that is used a lot in raku.

Agreed!

If you are using borate.. 3124 is the boron-brother (To the Ferro Frit 3134). BUUUT takes added Mg, Na, to stabilize it for higher fire.. and almost always looks "burnt" past cone 4.

Also.. @penumbra , last time I was frit-shopping... 3134 was unavailable ANYWHERE...
There SEEMED to be a "chemically close" blend that was referred to as FF 3134(2)...

...weird!

3134 is the one that was recommended to me and used by me. Yes I have used 3124 for glazes but 3134 was better for raku glazes and as a bonding agent for oxides.
I actually have several chemicals that are now hard to find.

My experience with 3124 was alright..

Seems 3134 is stable at higher temps.

If you, friend, are sittin' on some "classic" 3134..

Yur'sitt'n ohn'a gwoooold-mine!

NICE!!!

Those first 4 pictured are Incredibly Lovely.
These are really nice pots.
Thanks both!
I'm definitely getting happier with the end result.

As for selling any. I've not really given it much thought to be honest. I think there are still some issues to iron out before I go down that road.
That being said. I'll have a large amount of pots soon so maybe I should start thinking about it some more.

@penumbra the green round is quite small. Probably 5 and a half inches in diameter. It's also not very round.

Thanks for the tip. I'll run some tests on this in my next firing.
I have some ferro frit 3134 laying around.
I think I'll also go as far as testing just oxide and water on more clays.

Thanks Penumbra, I'll have a think this week.
There would also be the shipping issue as I'm in the UK...

I had forgotten. Shipping is going to be a problem I think. Still, give it some thought and let me know.

Do you ever make a pot and Instantly start to worry that you're going to ruin it when glazing it?

Pretty happy with this one!
