Pigletts Progress

@Judy, well this happens to be the second time today I've said gorgeous ugly about someones bonsai, (may need to get a copyright on the phrase, but I digress). Your tree is one gorgeous ugly tree. Some things in life can only be described with an oxymoron, (contrdictory terms in conjunction).

Nice, Judy. How is your back, or did you use a hoist and winches?

Pot selection for deciduous trees really depends on whether the tree is to be shown in leaf or bare. IMO, this pot would be nice for a tree in leaf, especially with fall color, both in size and color. If it were to be shown bare, I would be inclined to go with an unglazed reddish, dark brown or very dark blue glazed, smaller than this one.
This is no joke! These bigger CHUNKS can be back breakers. I'm guessing it was a two person repot.
I like the new angle! Sharp!

Like a Bulldog, so ugly they are cute?
Piglet is just a GREAT shaped tree.

Looks good! Though I like that namako...is something slated for it?

I enjoy the tree way more in this pot.
The old one was a bit busy. Made me uneasy.

This one is soothing, holds the tree better.

I think the tree is so big, it makes the old one look as if the tree pushed the lip down.

For me....way better.

Not at all, I can lift this one no problem. I thought I was getting weak and had Bill come to help, but found I'd missed a wiring tie to the pot! ;). Moving the tree in the pot is more of an issue when the substrate is wet...

I like the color and shape of the new pot with this, but also really did like the dark blue of the namako. I would like to find a pot that would work for all seasons of course! The namako is the right width, but is too narrow, someone told me the tree looked constipated in it LOL. I think the final pot will be a less wide than the new pot, it seems to diminish the trunk a tiny bit from the old pot. It is hard (and expensive) to find pots of this size that are fitting. Will keep a sharp eye out.

The piglet got a new pot today. Tradsees with my Korean Hornbeam. I knew I needed something wider front to back and this one is perfect as far as size. I would love some feedback on the pot combination. This will probably not be the end pot for the tree, I'll be looking for that over the next couple of years. But would like to know how people feel about the color, shape.

New planting angle as well, turned counter clock by 1/4 or so.
I think it's better...It's a Randy Doughty pot.

Super nice meaty trunk!! Maybe could use a more "masculine" container.

I think this is a far better tree pot combo. the tree really stands out now and looks very powerful. best angle for me:cool:

Further......

Putting a human feeling, or emotion to it, is an excellent way to describe the discomfort.

If we are going for comfortable for the viewer, "constipated" is not a feeling we want to portray.

I think that the new pot broadens the base as it doesn't feel as tight to the tree to your eye. I don't think the pot is overly feminine, and I do think this tree needs an oval not a rectangle. That said, I will still be on the lookout for something in the future that may be the perfect fit. Hard to find huge pots...

Looking at this some more, it seems like the lower left branches have about the same angle as the upper branches. Over time, they'll lower somewhat on their own, but I suggest moving them a bit now, since they're wired. I understand where you're taking it, but lowering them adds to the appearance of age without destroying the image, IMO.

Unwired and cut back already after I took the photo. I am rewiring as soon as I get a moment, and lowering the left branches is next on my list! Don also suggested this after he saw the pictures, so we all agree. Let me know if you see a pot in your travels...
