SUCCESS. HI. THE METHOD TO ROOT JAPANESE MAPLE SOFTWOOD CUTTUNGS IS FAIRLY SIMPLE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD AS OUTLINED BELOW:

1. YOUR CUTTINGS MUST BE THICK AND HAVE A MASS OF FOLIAGE LIKE YOU WOULD DO WITH AN AIR LAYER. I HAVE NOT EXPERIMENTED WITH SIZE BUT THE GENERAL RULE OF THUMB THAT I AM SUGGESTING IS TO USE THE THICKNESS OF YOUR THUMB LOL TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF THE CUTTING. THIN CUTTUNGS DIE OUT FASTER.

2. DO NOT DEFOLIATE THE CUTTING AND PLANT IT AS YOU WOULD PLANT A TREE THAT YOU HAVE ROOT PRUNED SEVERELY. KEEP THE SOIL MOIST (WHATEVER MEDIUM YOU CHOSE IS UP TO YOU JUST REMEMBER THAT TREES NEED GOOD DRAINAGE SO THE ROOTS GROW FREELY AND RECIEVE AIR)

3. AFTER YOU SEE BUDDING BACK (between 2 to 4 weeks depending on your timing when collection your raw material. the trees will bud bad sometime at this point or they will dry out and die) PLACE THE CUTTINGS IN FULL SUN SO THE TREE CAN PHOTOSYNTHESIZE AND BEGIN TO GROW A STRONG ROOT SYSTEM.

4. GO ONLINE AND THANK BRAVURA BONSAI FOR EDUCATING YOU LIKE A BOSS.

yeah, but as the OP realized @Nigel Saunders is actually a member here, and that nigel has since visited his channel, he is trying to deflect attention, instead of being a man (not a 16 year old girl) about, admitting his mistake, apologizing and moving on.

I hope Nigel realizes that VERY few of us (members here) behave in such a manner as the fellow who began this thread.

Don’t want to be a victim of “unintellectual guilt” by proximity.

(Understand how diplomatic I am trying to be.... you just keep diggin’ making it worse... olive branches were extended a few times during the beginning of all this “hooplah”, and hinged ONLY on one thing... your pride.. your ego.. you could’ve taken your licks and bounced back already)

“Ego death” would be a very useful therapeutic tool for an individual such as yourself (for everyone, actually).. all jokes aside.

Trying to assist you in your own voyage, traveller... people who act this way always travel alone and never obtain any semblance of happiness. I strongly suggest you observe/assess yourself, realistically and rationally, FOR yourself.. no one else. No need to SHARE your conclusions.. they are for you....

Well put. And I concur, however, I feel that he was serious at first,but as he felt attacked that he just turned into that guy playing Minecraft on South Park. Maybe not that bad but I think he gets a kick out of trolling this thread. I could be wrong, and he's just a stubborn idiot.

He has been clipping and growing for years without results its always "that comes later" or "ill work on that in the future" and he just cuts trees back and lets them grow. Thats take 30years for anything to develop i dont have 30years to spend learning something or watching someone do something. I dont think he understands youtube.
