Nice day in the neighborhood. Why not showcase??

Find it funny that this thread has gotten more views than most of my other threads in a short amount of time. Sounds advantageous!!! So let me take this opportunity show a few trees I’ve enjoyed playing around with.

Been having trouble with this one bc it’s due for a repot sitting in pure akadama mud!

You know what you can do with that Hinoki? Wire the top branches horizontal because all growth is ~straight up and you'll get a nice round-able head. Otherwise it will just grow up and be hard to do anything with. Nice duel trunk!

And to everyone who didn’t answer my Q in the original post, I’ll guess I can answer that now. Not a single one of you have balls big enough lmao.

I can’t argue with anybody about the subject bc everyone has made valid points. Although I’m still not worried about a cheap tree that’s puts out beautiful flowers all summer as part of my front landscaping. Balls are big with this one.
Worry or not. Balls are relative. Not being concerned about a tree you've had a year or two doesn't take balls. Like bragging no one swiped you bike with the training wheels when you left it on the sidewalk...Put 15-20 years into a tree and see how you feel about putting out on the front porch.

Got a challenge for ya...Put that thing 10 feet from the street. Leave it there for three days...

When I was first interested in bonsai about 30 years ago I bought a young 2 ft. tall Japanese Maple tree in a grocery store for just a few dollars. I took it home and put it on the front porch. It was gone in exactly 3 days. Now I keep them hidden (as much as is possible but so they still get sun) behind an old grill and by the back steps. There's some concrete blocks in front of them to add another obstacle.

Its not just trees. My mother in law recently had several houseplants stolen from her front porch a little while ago. And we are talking $20 houseplants. If you dont have faith in anything else, have faith that people are stupid.

Not sure if you missed the context from the OP, but I think the question was "Do you leave your Bonsai out for the public to see?"
Not a thread to display your trees.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
You wouldn't be the first. Been married 3X.
You got it all mixed up bud. I don’t leave my bonsai for public to see. I have left a bonsai in the front yard for a few hours while I drank some beers. And last summer I left a bougy and a desert rose out front while in bloom. Neighbors thought it was nothing more than a rose bush im sure. My bonsai are kept in my backyard for all my neighbors in the behind me to see 😆

Umm yeah like previously stated. I got bored of my thread, so I decided to hi jack my own thread.

Thanks for the tip!
After I snapped the pic I shoved a smooth rock in between both trunks to separate them a little more

The balls thing was joke dude, get over it.

Edit: dude your going off on your own. I would never work a tree for 20 years and leave it outside for somebody to steal. Let’s get on the same page.

Love the sarcasm

I'm for real.

If you worry it'll get stole it'll get stole.

Some folks here are more worried about your tree than the worry they'd feel if they got their own stolen.

It just doesn't add up!

Outta balance!

Cheers!

I do take offense to all the dope smoking comments... get your paranoid racist paridigms straight! dope smoking thieves were in the 50's and 60's, the 70's were junkies, in the 80's all bad-guys were crack heads, nowadays I suppose they are meth-smoking thieves? :)

Wow. Didn't think we'd solved heroin and cocaine addictions. I'll be sure to let my extended family know they don't have a problem, that it was all decades before their time! 🙃

LOL, This is the OP displaying his trees....he can do whatever he wants in his own thread... 😅

Oddly, my friend who lives in a "good neighborhood" and frequently hosts gatherings of members of the bonsai club, has been written up in the newspaper as a local bonsai artist, they have had several major thefts over roughly the same 30 year period. Thieves each time targeted some of the best trees.

If you are going to have theft, it is not the unknown, stranger, druggies or whatever. Most likely it will be someone that you invited into your home specifically to see your bonsai. My friend who was ripped off a number of years ago, had the theft happen about 2 weeks after an "open house" for bonsai friends.
I know that I'm always very careful about who I invite to workshops at my house. It is a hard decision to add a new person. I hope that I've got good instincts about people and so far its been good. But to shut out someone who wants to learn, feels hard hearted so I have to have some trust.

Are you a member of Wamas also ? Your name looks familiar, I am Tommy on Wamas.
