Newbie to Bonsai. (High Resolution Image warning)

Is there a drainage hole in the bottom of the pot? It looks from the picture that the tree is sitting in soggy swamp soil.

If I were you, I'd head back to that flea market (sounds like a fleece market) and ask for my money back.

Logan the paper substance looks like a peat pot. Its a seedling growing pot made out of ground peat used widely to start young plants. It will rot into the soil eventually. Unfortunately this means it was just stuck peat pot and all into that pot so its not established yet and may die on you. The rocks allow air to pass through so they will not keep it wet, the pot may not have drainage (hole in the bottom) and that may be why its staying wet.

I agree that it is a Procumbens nana. Remember that junipers are outdoor trees, never inside unless for a few minutes. In the winter keep it in a sheltered area like a garage with lights. I use clip-on lights with a 100 watt energy efficiency bulbs for my plants when inside on tables. They don't have to be on top of the plants but can be some distance from them. I have a gas hot water heater in my garage that tempers the cold during winter. During summer they are outside on tables. I use an automatic water sprinkler attached to a hose which comes on for 4 minutes each morning which is sufficient. The automatic sprinklers are available at hardware stores or big box stores.

This tree is perfectly capable of living outdoors 24:7:365 in Dalton, GA. Just set it on the ground in winter, and much the pot. No worries.

Yes, it's in a peat pot. Needs to get repotted into proper bonsai soil. What it's in right now is pure organic.

Mine seem to enjoy being outside all year.

Update. After removing the moss, stones, and other unnecessary things from the flower pot, the tree started to turn brown from the top of the tree. The brown then proceeded to go through the entire tree, then the leaves. I tried planting it in the ground [area where it can get morning and afternoon sun] hoping for a recovery, but I don't see it anywhere.
o_O
Live and learn I guess. I must've done something wrong. I think it's going to pass away. Anyways, does someone know a great website to use to order bonsai tree seeds?
