NC Bonsai expo in Asheville, NC

I missed the auction, but I was able to meet up with Martin. as well. He hooked me up with a few very nice 4-5 year old Arakawa maple cuttings. If you're looking for Arakawa, he's your man...thanks Martin, great to finally meet you....and how about those Red Sox!!!
I also go a very nice pot from Dale...Jason, were you the one really digging that large glazed oval of Dale's, only to have some guy with a Boston accent snatch it out from underneath you??? Sorry...but it did go to a good home:).

I forgot my camera and resorted to picture taking with my phone:eek:...sorry for the quality.

These are all Rocky Mountain Junipers...the semi cascade one Best in Show.

Does dale still have pots left? I'd like to get one since he won't be making them anymore.

I missed the game:(...good to see the offence clicking again. Also, I'm pretty sure Dale is still making pots...he just isn't doing many shows any more, as I understand it.

Hey Dave,

Do you have any shots of Rodney's demo tree? I heard it was a huge Kingsville.

Glad you had a good time. Wish I could have made it this year.

Best,
Kirk

Those are some great trees! Thanks for sharing pictures Dave. :)

Dan, thanks for posting...you reminded me that I hadn't posted these two yamadori...a Douglas fir and a huge ponderosa. The trunk on the pondy was easily a foot in diameter, or possibly more...gigantic!

Dave,

I was there and this was a very excellent expo. I had hope to meet you while there but no such luck and I also missed out on seeing Johng.

Which tree was the public's pick? I am curious as to what the public thought. IMO, there were too many great trees to single out only one. I wanted to take the BC home but knew it would never fit in my car. I tried to buy the Knoxville's beautiful maple the weekend before, but the artist would not sell. Hmmm, wonder why?

I am sending you a PM.

Here's the demo tree. Start and almost finished.

A few other trees.

1. My club's display (Blue Ridge Bonsai Society) won the Curator's Award, and my round stand and trees won best mini display (if you don't mind if we/I pat ourselves on the back for a moment). Our theme this year was small trees -- and for once they were not overlooked in a show of mostly giant trees.

A few other nice trees. The Charlotte Club's display, a Douglas Fir (unusual bonsai subject -- especially in the southeast), a large Juniper. a Shimpaku, and a Satsuki.

Beautiful display!

The Shimpaku was really nice and I thought very unusual with the carving.
