Naked pictures

Now since the squirrel damage three years ago, this is the base of the tree today. Now the roots are becoming more exposed and the flare is better. The roots will continue to fuse into a plate. That big scar is where that large root came off, that used to be the soil line. Now its two full inches below that mark. All from growing on a bare bottom pot.

Pulled the last of the leaves off most trees, so I could store them in the cold house for the winter. Was wearing shorts yesterday, and a coat today! 3 trees went in with leaves, 2 beech and the clump hornbeam is still stubborn so I'll let them stay and clean them up after they fall on their own. Here are some photos. These will be getting more cutback later on in the winter, I just did enough to make storage easy for now. My maples had an off year, it was dry here and hot for a lot of the summer. I did partial defoliations on them and they never really put out additional foliage. They are full of buds, but look particularly thin. The hackberries are crazy looking, they don't look quite as crazy in person, as you can see the layers in 3d, that all sit on top of each other in flat. Who says that hackberries won't ramify??!! Will cut these back a bunch late winter, they get tip dieback in cold weather, so will wait for that.
Here are the maples

Really great collection you have going there. I really love this tree - it's got an incredibly natural feel to it, and looks like the trees I see around here every day. Is it a hawthorn? Do you mind me asking where you acquired it?

This is a large hawthorn that I got from Don Blackmond. It's amazing and quite a project. The trunk and base is superb. Just working on branching really now.
Thanks, Mcpesq.

A pull down blind. I have rigged it in front of my other white shade background so I can use either one with minimal hassle.

All your trees are looking much improved. I also cannot help but notice you are upgrading containers. Great trees in great pots in a great collection. Thanks for the look into your world.
Happy to share, I am looking forward to seeing the crabapple next spring, it should go nuts.
