My spot for Scots pine.

It's not such a bad idea. Scots react to clip and grow rather well without the potential of die back at cut points you get with cousin Mugo.

Man I wish I could get some of those guys, the only pine I have permission anytime to collect is ponderosas which as we all know have those EPIC long needles.

Aaron

Hey, Aaron, if you get tired of them, I'll be happy to collect some to get them out of your way! Actually, I just picked up some wilding permits from the Española Ranger District office today.

Not sure they would make it in New Mexico.

I think any pine should work here, unless there's a warm weather species. We have cold winters, especially in northern New Mexico (my house is at 6,700'). Our biggest challenge is the low humidity (I'm still nursing the moss in the top-dressing I put on all my soil a month-and-a-half ago, though it is slowly growing).
