it is time to start removing the bag. Oops, it is really hot and dry at this time! I have to be careful to remove the bag (if there was a wind, I don’t dare to remove the bag).
I misted the leaves with hand water sprayer.

after about 1 hour, the tips of shoots wilted , I had to bag them up again, but this time I leave the bottom of the bag open . I will try to take out the bag again tomorrow.

I am adding Emperor pomegranate to my collection.
@ Godschick: you will have a seedling soon! Actually, I will send you a bigger seedling in winter.

My friend gave me one fruit on 6/17/22. I put the pulps into the soil right away. On 7/4/22, there were some living signs!

Today. They are clearly pomegranate seedlings. I am so excited because I never sowed pomegranate in the past 🤣

This morning I tried to take the bag off again. So far so good .😊. The weather forecast stated it would be wind today. I have to watch it closely. I will put the bag back if there is any sign of wilting.

Do you have any more information on the white Pom? I have only seen one in person once. The owner told me they are extremely rare here in the US, his were imported from Japan. Haven't really found much information other than that.

Thanks for asking. I think it is rare, at least in Southern California. I search the name on the internet, I found Haku-Botan pomegranate originated from Japan. According to the source, it has double white flower with fruits, but as far as I know, all of my non-single flower pomegranates never set the fruits. One of my friends who knows a lot about pomegranate also said he never saw fruits on non-single flower pom and if there was fruit, it considered we were very lucky! He said it could set one or two small fruits every 5 years, but I never got it on my trees!

This dwarf pomegranate was dug from my garden in last winter. It was seedling from the seeds scattered there few years ago. I want to train in into literati ( I don’t have any pomegranate literati yet !)

it already has 3 flower buds ar

Very nice thread. I am starting a small collection also and trying to go by named cultivars
Do you have many poms where you know the variety?

Btw. I had some young shoots randomly turn black and dying, while others were totally fine. Maybe because I watered from above? Sounds fungal, right?

Do you get insects eating up your poms? I am lucky because wasps are regularly patroling mine. I dont think they find anything though
(I think they are much better than ladybugs)

Thanks. Welcome to pomegranate collection 😊

I don’t have many kinds of pomegranates and I just know some of their names!

If you water their leaves under sunlight, the young shoots can turn black and dry. I don’t think it is due to fungal infection .

My pomegranates have not been affected by insects or fungus! I found ladybugs and mantis .

My teacher just gave me this twisted pomegranate yesterday. It had severe rootbound with 2 big roots passed through the drainage holes. I had to cut these roots to be able to get the tree out of the pot !

It had an ant nest in the soil. I had to soak the whole soil into the pesticide solution in 5 minutes; then soaked it into the tap water for another 5 minutes. Although this time is not good to changing soil, I had to do. I don’t recommend whoever is not familiar with the pomegranate to change soil in the summer!

new soil: mini pine barks/ potting soil/ pumice with 2/1/1 ratio

It still has one tiny flower bud at this time !4BE86A2A-8EDF-405D-AF0E-F6E82E936515.jpeg

Because the trunk is already a little big and the skin is thin, it obviously will cause an injury to the skin if I wire it. So, I had to use branch benders to do that job for me. Because I am aiming for literati, I need to make some curves on its trunk.

I will remove these tools right before I transplant the tree to clay pot in the end of this winter.😊

My twisted pomegranate seems so vigorous.
And last year when i let it grow and cutback, the ramification is not that predictable.
its like 50/50, 50% it will only bud one side, and 50% it will bifurcate.

Now im thinking if pomegranate is okay to defoliate?
if so should i fully defoliate or partial?

Thanks
Chris
