I agree with KennedyMarx and Aaron. I've got just one window sill with artificial lightning, cheap setup 1 white T5 + 1 flora@glo T5 for aqua plants. It's on only to make day longer (15:00-20:00). I think it works, I can see some difference comparing to the plants sitting on the other window sills. But sure, the main task is to keep trees alive over winter.
Scale insects, baaad thing and treatment - long distance run, if not marathon... Last fall I contacted Mr. Jerry Meislik to help me ID problem... I had (have?) a bad infestation of my figs by scales... Three rooms, three different species of scale insects. How I fight 'em?
1) mechanical cleaning - removed eth visible by soft brush / wooden stick. If the tree was too bushy, I had to reduce its ramification... some were so bad that I cut almost all branches,
2) insecticide, from our market sprayed repeatedly,
3) step No1 again,
4) application of ECO waxy solution.
It took approx. 3 months. I am not sure it's over, but so far new growth is so clear. I can see only dry remnants (their shells). Will keep this updated.
