Miracle Grow. And how it's used by me.

And I used to use epsom salt on my plants but I started to feel like I was kind of "winging it" so I cut that out a few years ago. Maybe I'll use it sparingly if I can find an article that gives me a break down

You posted at the same time - I outlined what works for me in post #19 :)

Instead of epsom salts look for "Sul Po Mag" langbeinite.

I use Jack's Professional with micronutrients that include Manganese at a low level - for the blue varieties I up it with a tablespoon or two of the Epson salts at the surface and water it in.

Epsom salt is Magnesium sulfate not manganese... Additionally if soil salinity is a concern, Sul Po Mag does not increase it and epsom salt does.

I respect your growing experience and I am just stating what works here in a far different climate. Here growers use Epson salt on a regular basis for "blue" conifers and have been for years. Another thing I find different in the North East is common to use a Sulfur/water solution watered in for fungal control and painted on trunks of trees after damaging moss is removed. It gets rinsed off an hour or so after application but stops it from growing again FAR better then Vinegar... Perhaps just location but I find here things work far different not only for me but other growers ;)

Must be a fact then - after all it is on the net  Honest I don't want to have a pissing match and just share what works for me!

Also noticed you have some small stock I am interested in but I am going away and cannot chat it or order until we are home most likely Tuesday - any chance you have others and if so can you PM me a number to call you at before I order?

Your in Michigan, this can burn your tree's in places where it gets hot - on 95+ degree's I wouldn't recommend this - in spring and fall - you should be safe

Yep, and the reason is because the roots slow down and even stop once it gets that hot and hotter. So unless you flush the pots really well the salts just build up at your roots and "burn" them. So make sure those pots flush good regardless of how much you use.

Mike, any results to report on your elm experiment giving them this does every day?
I'll get comparison pictures but it's way bigger than the other elms started at the same time.

the trops....which I'm growing weary of...
I'd burn some of these figs....but I bet ya' the fumes from the latex sap would come back to haunt me!!!!:confused::mad::mad::mad::mad::D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Send the trops my way :cool::p:p

I also use miracle grow, but granular form on all trees and then the new version of Miracid for my pines, junipers, and hibiscus every 2 weeks.

Although, Mike I will say that I don't use near that much haha half that dose.

I'm going to start using A LOT more, No mercy!!!!!

thanks for sharing

Here they are.
These trees are all the same age. 3 years from seed.
The first 2 are ones that got it twice or more per week.20170917_122726.jpg 20170917_122555.jpg This one only got it once per week.20170917_122919.jpg Huge difference.
But no huge leaves nor super long internodes.
I'll be chopping again in spring for more movement.
On a side note. The second one has been in that colander since it was a seed. It has colonized it with so many roots that it hardly drains. And I think it's the cause for the flare at the base. Tons of roots pushing all of that fertilizer.
And from the pictures you all should be able to guess what happens next year to all elms I keep.
